Potential members of Assabet Valley Mastersingers (AVM) will be welcomed at open rehearsals on Monday, August 26; Tuesday, September 3; and Monday, September 9. Rehearsal times for these dates and all regular Monday practices to follow will be from 7:30- 9:45 p.m. at Church of the Nativity located at 45 Howard Street.
Preparation will begin for the first concert on November 16, featuring Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, both with orchestra and soloists. The program title of the November concert will be Bridging Traditions—from Psalm to Mass, representing the theme of this 41st AVM season of Building Bridges.
On Sunday, December 15 a Messiah Sing with audience participation will be enjoyed.
Two more AVM concerts are scheduled to follow.
On Sunday, March 15, 2020 the concert Bridges to Unity will include the premiere of an AVM Commission by composer Cynthia Wong, a native of Northborough and Algonquin Regional High School graduate.
The Saturday, May 16, concert Bridges of the Spirit will feature two glorious compositions by French composers – Faure’s Requiem in d minor and Poulenc’s Gloria – with the choristers accompanied by stellar organist Brett Maguire.
Since May of 1978 the 75-member Assabet Valley Mastersingers chorus, directed by founder and Artistic Director Dr. Robert P. Eaton, has gained a reputation for musical excellence and unusual programming. For those who enjoy a cappella singing in a small group there is the opportunity for participation in the Chambersingers, a community outreach ensemble. In addition AVM offers an Apprentice Singers Program to talented and motivated high school choral students at no cost to them.
Further information about the Mastersingers organization may be obtained by calling (508) 769-1480 or (978) 562-9838 or viewing the website. Partial support for concerts has been provided by the Massachusetts Cultural Council through local Arts Councils.
