Library February children events & programs

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for February 2021. It’s full of virtual and socially distant in-person fun and will keep your toddlers and preschoolers entertained. The list includes story times and music programs. Online registration is required for most programs and masks are required for all in-person events. Zoom links will be shared after registration is confirmed. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4.

MONDAYS

  • Feb. 1, 8, 22: Young Scientists with STEM Beginnings, 1-2 pm via Zoom. Children will learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts through interactive hands-on activities, story time and simple experiments. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to help their child. Weekly registration is required and class size is limited to 12 children, ages 3-6 (siblings are welcome). A list of materials for families to prepare for each class will be provided weekly.

TUESDAYS

  • Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23: Preschool Explorers on Zoom, 10-10:30 am. A special Zoom story time with Ms. Carly is designed for preschoolers to explore a STEAM related concept through stories, songs, and an activity or demonstration. This program is best suited for children ages 4-5, although siblings and grown ups are welcome to join the fun. Registration required in order to receive an email with the Zoom info.
  • Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23: Crafternoon Kits, 12 pm. (Outside the Children’s Room Side Door). Drop by the library every Tuesday afternoon to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Virtual Crafternoon videos will be posted on the library’s YouTube channel and Facebook page each Tuesday for you to watch and craft along! Kits will be available for pick up from 12-6 pm on Tuesdays or while supplies last.
  • Feb. 2, 16: PJ Storytime on Zoom, 6:15-6:45 pm. Bring your favorite stuffed animal and enjoy cozy stories to end the night right. Best suited for families with children ages 2-6. Zoom link will be shared upon registration.
  • Feb. 9: STEAM MegaBytes, 4:30-5:30 pm via Zoom. This program gives school-aged children a chance to learn about different STEAM aspects with hands-on activities. Register on our event calendar and supplies pick up information will be  sent to you. The program is designed for children in grades K-5.
  • Feb. 16: Harry Potter Week Wizarding Kit, 9-6:30 pm (outside the Children’s Side Door).  Sign up to pick up a goodie bag filled with Harry Potter themed snacks and activities. Copies of the books and movies will be available to check out. Please make your request at the time of registration and every effort will be made to accommodate all requests. Please note that supplies are limited.

WEDNESDAYS

  • Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24: Mother Goose on the Loose-Winter Session, 10-10:30 am via Zoom. A special storytime for the youngest patrons. This is an early literacy program for ages birth-3 years old. A story, songs, rhymes, bouncing, and fingerplays will be part of the fun. Musical instruments, puppets, and other props to further children’s early learning skills will be used. THURSDAYS

  • Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25: Music Mashup-Winter Session, 10-10:30 am via Zoom. Designed for ages 2-5 and their whole family. Children will explore movement through music, use instruments and other manipulatives and enjoy a story together Registration is required.

FRIDAYS

  • Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26: Toddler Time-Winter Session, 10-10:30 am via Zoom. Age- and developmentally-appropriate stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplay will be used to build your child’s early literacy skills. Geared to children ages 2-3 years old with a favorite adult. Registration required. Archived recordings of the sessions will be available on the Library’s YouTube page.
  • Feb. 19: Virtual Harry Potter Trivia, 1-1:45 pm via Zoom. Calling all witches and wizards! Think you have what it takes to pass your O.W.L.s? Prove your Wizarding World knowledge with an afternoon of trivia. Come as a team or on your own. We will be using Zoom and Kahoot for the event. There will be a small prize for first place. Out of town teams are welcome to play, but prizes must be picked up at the library. Registration required.
