Vikram is running to fill one of TWO open seats on the Board of Selectmen
Why do you want to serve in this position?
I am interested in using my time for the service of the community of Northborough which has enabled me to nurture my family during the last 14 years. To that end I am running for Selectman in the Town of Northborough. I believe in sustainability, fiscal responsibility, following the science and being kind to nature and the environment. I think that my fair and balanced approach to issues will help in realizing the immense potential that Northborough has to offer.
What special qualifications and experience will you bring to the office of Selectmen?
Professionally, I have been helping the medical device industry to ensure compliance with federal and international regulations, so those devices are safe for the public. As a result, I have been trained to follow the science, be detail oriented, and ask the experts difficult questions as a lay person but at the same time support business needs while ensuring the public good. I intend to bring the same sensibility and professionalism to the issues facing our community.
Describe ONE other activity or (sub)committee you’ve been involved with within the town. What has it meant to you and how did it shape and impact the town?
Although I have been a Northborough resident for 14 years, it was only recently when both my kids left home that I decided to focus my attention on Northborough, my larger family. I am a newcomer who has no predetermined agenda and bring the promise of a new perspective to the issues our town faces. I applied to the Diversity and Inclusion committee earlier and this is my second attempt to participate in nurturing our town.
Describe THREE key issues/ challenges facing the town and how will you address them in this role?
While speaking with the residents of Northborough, I understand the following to be some major challenges that the town is facing:
Challenge 1: To achieve sustainable growth – I intend to balance the need to support new businesses by leveraging our geographic location but at the same time preserving our small-town atmosphere.
Challenge 2: To make fiscally responsible decisions – I intend to balance the need for revenue through attracting inclusive, sustainable businesses with the least possible burden on residents and businesses or compromising the safety of town residents. Additionally, I intend to support prudent cost control.
Challenge 3: Infrastructure enhancement – I intend to continue to promote and endorse quality education through fiscally supporting the schools, improve infrastructure such as the fire station and septic system and develop a downtown where our community can gather to support our business community and enjoy what they have to offer.
I intend to consider all recommendations while arriving at any prospective solutions to issues and challenges.

I do not come to you with a predetermined agenda. I come to you with an open mind and commitment to generally apply my skill set to diligently do the best that I can for the town of Northborough.
