Your chance to do your final clean out of the garage and basement is here. First Parish of Northborough located at 40 Church Street is partnering with Green Day Recycling and hosting an electronic recycling event on Saturday, August 21 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

For a small fee, $5-$40, you can recycle old computers, household appliances, televisions and more. There is no charge for cell phones, wires, batteries, tablets or keyboards. Cash is preferred but checks for more than $30 will be accepted.

Bicycles in any condition are being accepted. These are stored separately and generally do not go through the same recycling process as the electronics. If a bike is beyond repair, it will be recycled. Others are restored and repaired or used for parts. Many children’s bikes are donated to an inner-city church in Worcester’s Main South neighborhood.

Computer hard drives and all the personal data they may carry will be destroyed in the recycling process and will never be usable again. Parts are broken down via a giant shredder, separated and melted down at which point they can be reused and repurposed. The hard drives, and all the personal data they carry, will ultimately be destroyed in this process never to be usable again.

The collected materials are broken down at the processing facility in Worcester, then shipped to other companies that will continue the recycling process by melting down the metals and plastics to be reused. No collected materials are shipped overseas.

The event will be held rain or shine. Proceeds will benefit First Church.
