October kids’ programs announced at library

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for October 2021. It’s full of socially distant in-person fun and will keep your kids entertained. Online registration is required for some programs. Please continue to help protect our town’s children until they are eligible for vaccines. The library respectfully asks that you wear a mask and/or practice social distancing while participating in in-person events. SPECIAL EVENTS:

  • October 15 (4-4:30 p.m.) Family Magic Show at Ellsworth McAfee Park. Family magic show with Steven Craig, who never fails to engage and excite audiences with his off-the-charts energy, laugh-out-loud comedy and tons of audience participation. Registration is requested. The event will be postponed or cancelled in the event of rain or severe weather.
  • Not So Scary Stories with John Procino, renowned storyteller/musician; Ellsworth McAfee Park. October 28 (10-11 a.m.) He will spin a handful of his most beloved seasoned tales and songs for young children. Expect stories, songs, music and playful touch of audience participation. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Northborough Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council.
  • Trick or Treat the Library. October 30 (9:30-11:30 a.m.) Happy Halloween! Families are invited to don their costumes a day early and trick or treat the library. Discover the spooky storywalk around the library and pick up a take home craft and goody bag. This is a timed entry event and registration is required.

MONDAYS

  • October 18 (4-5 p.m.) Lego Club STEM Week Edition in the Meeting Room. Drop in for a Lego Club focused on engineering for STEM week. Kids can free-build or complete our challenge of the week. Registration required.

TUESDAYS

  • October 5, 19 (10-10:30 a.m.); October 12, 26 (1:30-2 p.m.). Preschool Explorers at Ellsworth McAfee Park pavilion. Join Ms. Carly under the pavilion for a storytime designed for preschoolers to explore a STEAM related concept through stories, songs, and an activity or demonstration. Best suited for children ages 4-5. No registration required.
  • October 5 (6:30-7 p.m.), PJ Storytime on Zoom. Get dressed in your pajama best and join Ms. Lindsay for a bedtime themed storytime. Bring your favorite stuffed animal and enjoy cozy stories to end the night right. Best suited for families with children ages 2-6. Registration required.
  • October 19 (4-4:30 p.m.) Beginning Reader Book Club in the Meeting Room. Newly independent readers are invited to practice reading out loud by working through a story together in a small group. Best suited to kindergarten-aged children. This month’s book is Pig has a Plan by Ethan Long. Books will be available to check out in advance in the Children’s Room. Registration is required.
  • October 19 (6:30-7 p.m.) PJ Storytime in the Meeting Room. Get dressed in your pajama best and join Ms. Lindsay for a bedtime themed storytime. Bring your favorite stuffed animal and enjoy cozy stories to end the night right Best suited for families with children ages 2-6. Registration required.

WEDNESDAYS

  • October 6, 13, 20, 27 (10-10:30 a.m.). Mother Goose at Ellsworth McAfee Park. An early literacy program for children ages birth-2 years. Sing, rhyme and bounce along with musical instruments, puppets, and other props. No registration required.
  • October 20 (6-7 p.m.) Graphic Novel Book Club in the Meeting Room. Read a graphic novel each month then come to the meeting to discuss it and make a craft or play a game. This program is for kids in grades 3-5. This month’s book is Donut the Destroyer by Sarah Graley. Parents and caregivers for those younger than 10 must remain on the library premises while their children participate in this independent book club. Books will be available to check out in advance in the Children’s Room. Registration is required.

THURSDAYS

  • October 7, 14, 21 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Mashup at Ellsworth McAfee Park pavilion. Designed for children ages 2 through 5 and their whole family, this program invites children to explore movement through music, use instruments and other manipulatives, and enjoy a story or two together.

FRIDAYS

  • October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (10-10:30 a.m.) Toddler Time at Ellsworth McAfee Park pavilion. This storytime is filled with age- and developmentally-appropriate stories, songs, movement activities, and fingerplay that build your child’s early literacy skills. For children ages 2 and 3 years old with a favorite adult! No registration required.

SATURDAYS

  • October 2 (10-10:30 a.m.) Mother Goose on the Library Lawn. This is an early literacy program for children ages birth through 2 years. Sing, rhyme and bounce along with musical instruments, puppets, and other props. Registration is required.
  • October 2, 9, 16, 23: Crafternoon Kits. Drop by the library Children’s Room every Saturday to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Kits are available for pick up from 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Saturdays while supplies last.
  • October 9 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Mashup Remix on the Library Lawn. An engaging and interactive program developed for families with children ages 2 through 5. Instruments, scarves, and other manipulatives will be used while reading, dancing to music and making some noise. Registration is required. This is a remix of the weekly Music Mashup program with different songs and activities.
  • October 16 (10-10:30 a.m.) Stories, Songs, & Sketches on the Library Lawn. Kids and their parents or caregivers are invited to play together through stories, songs and yoga shapes. No experience necessary! This program is best suited for families with children ages 4-7. Registration is required.
  • October 23 (10-10:30 a.m.) Color Me a Story in the Meeting Room. Drop in for a quick story and color a themed coloring page. For families with children ages 2 through 6. Registration is required.
