Community book discussion on ‘The Racial Healing Handbook’ to start in January

Please note as of January 11, this event has been postponed due to the COVID-19 case surge. When the new dates are available, they will be shared.

Community members are invited to join a series of thoughtful and honest community discussions on The Racial Healing Handbook by Annaliese A. Singh PhD LPC. The group is hosted by Valeria Schmidt and Jennifer Ogonowski. The first meeting of three will be held on Thursday, January 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Trinity Church of Northborough. (Please note, this is not a church event.) Meetings will be once a month for three months and space is limited to 12 people. Meetings can also be attended virtually on Zoom.

Please email Valeria Schmidt at valerianboro@gmail.com to save your spot or request the Zoom link.

Please come to the first meeting having read the foreword, introduction and first chapter and having completed the first exercise.

The book addresses both White people and People of Color. The intent is to provide a safe space where everyone will have a voice. Small group breakouts for People of Color and White people and will have a POC leading their small group.

The Racial Healing Handbook offers practical tools to help you navigate daily and past experiences of racism, challenge internalized negative messages and privileges, and handle feelings of stress and shame. You’ll also learn to develop a profound racial consciousness and conscientiousness, and heal from grief and trauma. Most importantly, you’ll discover the building blocks to creating a community of healing in a world still filled with racial microaggressions and discrimination.
