Sponsors are being sought to benefit the Northborough Community Friend Fridge, which was established by students at the Fitzgerald Community School. Funds raised will be utilized to purchase farm fresh veggies this summer for families who frequent the fridge. Produce will be purchased locally from Davidian’s Farm and Yellick’s Farm. The Friend Fridge is located outside of the Northborough Food Pantry at 37 Pierce Street.
Any resident or business interested in contributing can DONATE ON LINE. Questions can be emailed to thefriendfridge@gmail.com. A tax deductible receipt can be provided upon request.
Main Street Pastries will be the fiscal host of the fundraiser through its Hope Bread program.
The Friend Fridge is a free food fridge and is a “take what you need, leave what you can” fridge, providing free food to all members of the community. It aims to build community and fill the gaps between food security and equity.
A reminder for those who would like to continue donating fresh food items to the fridge– whole foods, produce, breads, dairy and frozen items are always welcomed. Site manager and teacher Maria Ravelli posted a reminder on Facebook that donors are asked to please check expiration dates and remember that “if you wouldn’t eat it or feed it to your family, don’t put it in the community fridge. People deserve to access quality food with dignity.” Raw meat is also not acceptable.
