Library announces July programs for kids

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has great July programs scheduled. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4. Registration from the library’s events page is needed for many of the programs.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

  • Percy Jackson Greek Myth Escape Room: Wednesday, July 6 & Thursday, July 7, 2-3 p.m. & 3:15-4:15 p.m. Calling all puzzle lovers and Percy Jackson fans. Escape the library if you can! Find clues and solve puzzles in a special escape room inspired by Greek mythology. Ages 8+ with an adult.
  • Make a Mason Bee House: Thursday, July 21, 1-2 p.m. If you are looking for a way to help our pollinators, join us to make a mason bee house that you can hang in your garden or yard. Materials will be provided; registration is requested.
  • Rolie Polie Guacamole at Ellsworth McAfee Park: Friday, August 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Celebrate the end of the summer reading club. This program brings a smart, parent-friendly musical style that dresses up original tunes and classic covers with vibrant harmonies and deft instrumental layers, plugging in a sizzling electric current of rhythm that lights up lyrics humming with relevance and humor. Families are welcome. Registration requested.
  • Stargazing at Ellsworth McAfee Park: Monday, August 1, 8-8:45 p.m. Explore the stars this summer. Learn about the best stargazing apps and how to use the library telescope. View planets, stars and the moon. For families with elementary aged children; please register.

MONDAY FUN DAY

  • DIY Kite: July 11, 1-3 p.m. Come and make your own kite. All materials provided. No registration is required.
  • Rock Painting. July 18, 1-3 p.m. Decorate rocks with us. All materials provided. No registration is required.
  • Nature Ornaments: July 25, 1-3 p.m. All materials provided. No registration is required.
  • Friendship Bracelets: August 1, 1-3 p.m. All materials provided. No registration is required.
  • Camp Games: August 8, 1-1:45 p.m. (Grades PreK-1) or 2-2:45 p.m. (Grades 2-5). Meet at Ellsworth McAfee Park Please register. The event will be cancelled or postponed in the event of inclement weather.

TUESDAYS

  • Music Mashup: July 5, 19, 26 and August 2, 9; 10-10:30 a.m. An engaging and interactive program developed for families with children 2-5. Instruments, scarves and other toys will be used while we read, dance to music and make some noise. Please register.
  • Art Camp: July 5, 19 and August 2; 3-4 p.m. Art enthusiasts in grades 3-5 are invited to join Miss Lindsay to explore different mediums and complete an art project at each session. Registration required. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing that can get stained. Caregivers must remain on the library premise.
  • Art Camp: August 9, 4:30-5:30 p.m. For grades 3-5. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing that can get stained as we will be using oil pastels this week. Please register.
  • Art Camp Junior: July 12, 26 and August 9; 3-4 p.m. Art enthusiasts in grades K-2, explore different mediums and complete an art project at each session. Will meet every other week and registration required for each session. Wear comfortable clothing that can get stained. Caregivers must remain on library premise.
  • EcoTarium: Animal Adaptations. July 12, 10-10:45 a.m. This program is best suited for children grades K-5. Do you and a whale eat the same food? Could you share the same house? Discover which characteristics and behaviors help animals move, hunt and survive. Examine biofacts like bones, skulls and pelts, then meet a live EcoTarium ambassador animal and explore the amazing ways it’s adapted to the ecosystem. Registration required.

WEDNESDAYS

  • Mother Goose on the Loose: July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3, 10; 9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:00 a.m. This early literacy program supports your child’s development through story, songs, rhymes, bouncing and fingerplays. Musical instruments and puppets will further children’s early learning skills. Best suited for children birth-2 with a favorite adult. Please register.

THURSDAYS

  • Preschool Story Time: July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 4, 11; 10-10:30 a.m. For preschoolers ages 4-5. A story time with a little independence. Join us for stories and a fun craft or activity. Please register.
  • Among Us IRL: July 14, 1-2 p.m. or 2:15-3:15 p.m. Step out of the virtual world and into a game of Among Us…In Real Life! For kids in grades 2-5. They are invited to take on the roles of “crewmates” and “imposters”. Crewmates will try to identify and vote out the imposters. Imposters will try to sabotage the mission and pick off crewmates. Who’s sus? Who can you trust? Who will win? Please register as space is limited.
  • Space Trivia: August 4, 2-3 p.m. Kids in grades 2-5 are invited for an afternoon of trivia about space. Sign up individually or as a team. Smaller teams may be combined. There will be prizes for winning teams and for participation. Space is limited and registration is required. Parents are asked to stay in the room and are welcomed to play along.

FRIDAYS

  • Flicknic-National Treasure: July 1, 12-2 p.m. Bring your lunch or a snack and enjoy a movie on the big screen. Families welcome; no registration is required.
  • Flicknic-Clifford the Big Red Dog: July 8, 12-2 p.m.
  • Flicknic-Space Jam-A New Legacy: July 15, 12-2 p.m.
  • Ficknic-Encanto: July 22, 12-2 p.m.
  • Flicknic: The Mitchells vs the Machines: July 29, 12-2 p.m.
  • Flicknic: Soul: August 5, 12-2 p.m.
  • Flicknic: Turning Red: August 12, 12-2 p.m.
  • Toddler Time: July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5, 12; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore a weekly theme while enjoying age and developmentally appropriate stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplay. Geared towards children ages 2-3 with a favorite adult. Please register.

SATURDAYS

  • Crafternoon Kits: July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and August 6, 13, 20; 9:30 a.m.-5:00 pm. Drop by the library every Saturday to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Crafternoon kits are available for pick up while supplies last on the designated dates.
