January Library kids’ programs

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has a variety of programs scheduled this month. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4. Registration from the library’s events page may be needed. Fun programs are scheduled for the school vacation week.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

  • Snowman Craft: Tuesday, Jan. 10; 4:30-5:30 p.m. Do you want to build a snowman? This craft workshop is perfect for creative kids in grades 3-5. We will make snow beings with socks, stuffing and fun! Please register.
  • Friendship Bread: Wednesday, Jan. 11; 4:30-5:30 p.m. Celebrate the warmth of friendship with Miss Rachael. You will hear a story and discover the Friendship Bread story. After tasting some Friendship Bread, you will be able to bring some starter home to continue the tradition of sharing and community. Program is best for families with kids ages 3+. Registration is required.
  • Author Visit-‘I Don’t Know’: Thursday, Jan. 19, 10:30-11 a.m. Local author Kristy Kielbasinski will share her seriously silly picture book, I Don’t Know, inspired by her three sons. Learn a little about the book, play some penguin games and take home a cute penguin craft. Please register.
  • Ask an Organizer: Saturday, Jan 21, 1-2 p.m. Get to know former early educator and local home organizer Danielle Nicholas of Oasis Organizing Solutions. She will share tips and tricks to help kiddos learn the importance of taking care of their belongings and maintaining their living/play spaces. For families with children ages 4+. Space is limited so please register.
  • Friendship Bracelets: Tuesday, Jan. 24, 4-6 p.m. Drop in to create your own friendship bracelet. Choose a template and your own embroidery floss colors, then follow the printed instructions to braid your bracelet. Perfect for kids in grades 2-5. No registration needed.
  • Bluey Party: Thursday, Jan. 26, 10-11 a.m. Let’s celebrate all things Bluey. We will read a Bluey story, play games and complete a fun Bluey-themed art project. For families that love adorable talking Australian dogs. Please register.

MONDAYS

  • Beginning Reader Book Club: Jan. 9; 4:30-5:00 p.m. Perfect for kindergarteners just learning to read. Kids will read a book aloud together, followed by a fun art project. The book this month is Pug by Ethan Long. Books are available at the Children’s Services Desk. Registration is required.
  • LEGO Club: Jan. 23, 3-5 p.m.. Drop by for LEGO Club! Free build or complete the challenge of the month. Please register to receive an email reminder.
  • Graphic Novel Book Club: Jan. 30, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Read a graphic novel each month, then come to the meeting to discuss it and make a craft or play a game. Geared to kids in grades 3-5. Books will be available to check out in advance in the Children’s Room. Please register. The book club will meet one Monday each month.

TUESDAYS

  • Music Mashup: Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; 10-10:30 a.m. An engaging and interactive program developed for families with children 2-5. Instruments, scarves and other toys will be used while we read, dance to music and make some noise. No registration required.

WEDNESDAYS

  • Mother Goose on the Loose: Jan 4, 11, 18, 25; 9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:00 a.m. This early literacy program supports your child’s development through story, songs, rhymes, bouncing and fingerplays. Musical instruments and puppets will further children’s early learning skills. Best suited for children birth-2 with a favorite adult. No registration required.
  • Read to Finnegan: Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25; 3:30-4:15 p.m. Sign up to read to our very special “read” dog. Finnegan is trained to sit with your child and listen to them read. This kind of support from lovable pups can foster your child’s self confidence, build reading skills and it’s just plain fun. Please register.

THURSDAYS

  • Preschool Story Time: Jan. 5, 12, 19; 10-10:30 a.m. or 1-1:30 p.m. For preschoolers ages 4-5. A story time with a little independence. Join us for stories and a fun craft or activity. No registration required.

FRIDAYS

  • Toddler Time: Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore a weekly theme while enjoying age and developmentally appropriate stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplay. Geared towards children ages 2-3 with a favorite adult. No registration required.
  • Toddler Zone Playtime: Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27; 10:30-11:30 a.m. Head over to the Room of Requirement – it’s time to play! The room’s door will be closed and special toys brought out for use only during this time. Families with toddlers ages 1-3 are welcome.
  • Chess Club: Jan. 6; 3:45-4:45 p.m. Chess Club is back! Kids will learn chess basics and useful strategies from local teen pros and challenge their friends to play in a relaxed environment. Club meets monthly. For elementary-aged kids. Registration is required.

SATURDAYS

  • 5 Senses Storytime: Jan. 7, 10-10:30 a.m. Explore on of the five senses with stories and a process art activity. For families with kids ages 3-6. Please register.
  • Songs, Stories and Stretches: Jan. 14; 10-10:30 a.m. Kids and their parents or caregivers are invited to play together through stories, songs and yoga shapes. No experience necessary. This program is best suited for families with children ages 4-7. Registration is required.
  • Crafternoon Kits: Jan. 21; 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Drop by the library to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Crafternoon kits are available for pick up while supplies last on the designated dates. Sponsored by the Northboro Junior Woman’s Club.
  • Flutter & Roar Storytime: Jan. 21; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore the animal kingdom in this creature-centric storytime. Read stories and do an activity inspired by one of our wild friends. Program is designed for families with kids preschool age and up. Please register.
  • Color Me a Story: Jan. 28; 10-10:30 a.m. Join Miss Rachael for a short story or two and a fun coloring page. For families; no registration required.
