June kids’ programs at the library announced

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for June 2023. The schedule continues to bring favorites and new summer programs and events. Online registration is required for some programs. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

  • Swim Safety with Goldfish Swim School. Thursday, June 15; 10-10:20 a.m. Join this interactive swim safety presentation. Kids ages 3-7 and their families will learn about the importance of water safety methods. Registration required.
  • Storywalk. Saturday, June 17. Enjoy a stroll around the library building and read a great book. A new Storywalk story will be posted around the library each Saturday. For families, no registration needed. Look for the signage near the accessible parking spaces to begin the walk.
  • Find your Summer Voice Summer Reading Party: Tuesday, June 20; 10:30-11:30 a.m. Celebrate the beginning of summer reading with a party. Mirabel and Luisa will “Find their Voices” during a short skit. Games, craft and summer reading club sign up will be featured. Please register.
  • Summer Reading Kickoff: Thursday, June 22; 1-4 p.m. at Ellsworth McAfee Park. Visit the library’s table at the Be Well Northborough Carnival to sign up for the Summer Reading Club and receive your brag tag, necklace and free book. All ages, no registration needed.
  • Flicknic: Pack a picnic lunch and a blanket and enjoy a movie on the big screen. Encanto: Friday, June 23; 12-2 p.m. Vivo: Friday, June 30; 12-2 p.m.
  • “Moving’ on Up” with Tom Knight Puppets: Monday, June 26; 2-3 p.m. A Free musical puppet show for children transitioning to preschool, kindergarten and first grade in fall 2023. Families with children, ages 3-6, will enjoy songs, movement and laughs with Tom Knight and his puppet pals. Every registered child will receive a book to take home. Please register.

MONDAYS

  • Monday Funday: Instrument Petting Zoo: June 26; 3-4 p.m. Kick off music week with unconventional petting zoo. Come see, hear and maybe even play some cool instruments. For families, no registration needed.
  • Graphic Novel Bookclub: June 5; 6:30-7:30 p.m. Read a graphic novel each month and then attend the meeting to discuss it and make a craft or play a game. For kids in grades 3-5. Books are chosen the month before by club members and will be available to borrow in advance at the children’s desk. Please register.

TUESDAYS

  • Music Mashup: June 6, 27; 10-10:30 a.m.  An interactive program developed for families with children ages 2-5. Instruments, scarves, and other manipulatives will be used while reading, dancing to music and making noise.
  • Find your Voice Karaoke: Tuesday, June 27, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Find your singing voice and bring your friends as you pick your favorite tunes and have a blast singing in a friendly environment. For families.

WEDNESDAYS

  • Read to Finnagan: June 7, 14, 21; 3:30-4:15 p.m. Sign up to read to our very special “read” dog. Finnegan is trained to sit with your child and listen to them read. This kind of support from lovable pups can foster your child’s self-confidence, build reading skills and it’s just plain fun. Sign up for a 15-minute time slot on the events page.
  • Mother Goose on the Loose: June 7, 21, 28; 9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11 a.m. A special storytime for our littlest patrons. This is an early literacy program that supports your child’s development through story, song, rhyme, movement, and more. This program is best suited for children ages birth-2 years old with a favorite adult. No registration required.

THURSDAYS

  • Preschool Story Time: June 1, 8; 10-10:30 a.m. or 1-1:30 p.m. A storytime with a little independence. Preschoolers ages 4-5 are invited to join Ms. Lindsay for some stories and a fun craft or activity. Grown-ups remain outside of our program for this special storytime. No registration required.
  • Find your Voice Storytime: June 22, 29; 10-10:30 a.m. Find your voice this summer at this fun family story time. Explore a different theme each week and participate in song, dance, and art projects over the course of the summer. For families with kids ages 3-7. Registration required.
  • Minecraft: Civil Engineering: Thursday, June 22; 2-4 p.m. Program presented by TD3 Innovative Gaming. Work together to draw power from a nearby lighthouse to power an island and enable a drainage system. Clear and construct tunnels to begin designing your own city! The second part of this program takes place on June 29. Please register. For kids entering grades 4-7 in the fall. Bring your own device with Minecraft loaded on it, although you are not required to have your own Minecraft account to participate. Limited number of devices available through the library.
  • Art Camp Jr.: June 29; 12:30-1:30 p.m. Kids in grades K-2 are invited to join Miss Lindsay to explore different mediums and complete an art project at each session. Will meet every other week and separate registrations will be required.
  • Minecraft: Physics: June 29; 2-4 p.m. Program presented by TD3 Innovative Gaming. Use Minecraft’s physics engine to explain real-world theories of gravity and acceleration through TNT explosions, bridge building competitions and roller coaster design challenges. Part 2 in the series (first part of this program takes place on June 22). Please register. For kids entering grades 4-7 in the fall. Bring your own device with Minecraft loaded on it, although you are not required to have your own Minecraft account to participate. Limited number of devices available through the library.

FRIDAYS

  • Toddler Time: June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; 10-10:30 a.m. This story time is filled with age- and developmentally-appropriate stories, songs, movement activities, and fingerplay. For children ages 2 and 3 years old with a favorite adult! No registration required.
  • Toddler Zone Playtime. June 2, 9, 16, 23 20; 10:30-11:30 a.m. Head over to the Room of Requirement after Toddler Time, because it’s time to play. The room’s door will be closed and special toys brought out for use only during this time. No registration required. Families with toddler aged children (1-3) are welcome.
  • Chess Club. June 9; 3:45-4:45 p.m. Elementary-aged kids are invited to learn chess basics and useful strategies from local teen pros and challenge their friends to play in a relaxed environment. Club meets every other week; please register.

SATURDAYS

  • 5 Senses Storytime. June 3; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore one of the five senses with stories and a process art activity. For families with children ages 3-6. Registration requested.
  • Shake, Rattle & Read: June 10; 10-10:30 a.m. Come for some singing, movement, and reading fun in this active storytime. Best for ages 2-5. No registration required.
  • Crafternoon Kits: June 17; 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Drop by the library to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Kits are available while supplies last. Sponsored by the Northboro Junior Woman’s Club.
