Assabet Valley Mastersingers are seeking vocalists of all age groups and cultural backgrounds! MOOYAH Burgers partners with Toys for Tots for 7th season
‘Tis the season to bring holiday cheer to kids in need as MOOYAH partners with Toys for Tots for the 7th year. Donate through Dec. 9. MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes, located in Northborough, is thrilled to announce its continued Toys for Tots partnership with the Marine Corps League, 144 Worcester Detachment in Worcester for the seventh year. As a dedicated Toys for Tots collection site, MOOYAH Burgers is once again rallying the local community to spread holiday cheer and bring joy to less fortunate children. This annual collaboration reflects MOOYAH’s commitment to giving back to the community it serves and making a difference in the lives of children during the holiday season. Donations of new, unwrapped toys should be non-violent and in the original packaging for ages 0-16 years old. Gift cards for older children are encouraged. When you head to the polls tomorrow be sure to stop by and support the 6th grade Bake Sale Tent at Melican Middle School. The Town of Northborough Scholarship Committee is holding an athletic shoe drive fundraiserthrough Friday, November 1. This unique fundraising program asks the community to reach intoclosets, not pockets. GotSneakers, a social enterprise, will issue funds based on the quality of gently worn, used andnew sneakers collected. The sneaker recycling program helps keep sneakers out of landfills, which has harmful effectson the environment. The EPA estimates that 200-300 million pairs of shoes are thrown intolandfills each year. Donate your running, basketball, gym and training, cleats (rubber only), hiking and casualsneakers. There are five drop off locations with collection bins in place: PR Running, 18 Lyman Street, Westborough HOTWORX, 318 Main Street, Northborough 147 Davis Street, Northborough 118 Washburn Street, Northborough 43 Ridge Road, Northborough (bin by front door) The Northborough Scholarship Committee is a town committee that provides Northborough highschool seniors with the opportunity for some financial assistance for their post-secondaryeducation. Northborough Helping Hands Kicks Off ‘Making Spirits Bright’ Holiday Campaign
Northborough Helping Hands Association, Inc. (NHHA) is busy checking their lists this Octoberin preparation for their annual Making Spirits Bright holiday outreach program. The program hasbeen assisting Northborough families and senior citizens in need for over 20 years. NHHAinvites the community to get involved by sponsoring a gift, a child, or a grocery gift card. Thedeadline for donations is Friday, November 8. In collaboration with local human service programs, NHHA identifies families and individuals inneed of holiday support. This year, NHHA aims to raise $14,000 to provide gift cards to parents,allowing them to personally purchase much-needed clothing or a special toy from their child’swish list. Grocery gift cards will also be distributed to senior citizens and singles in need. Last year, NHHA served 63 families and 62 senior/adult households, making the holiday seasonbrighter for local families. The gift cards will be distributed at NHHA’s annual Thanksgivingevent, where recipients also receive a turkey with all the trimmings. MELICAN MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HOST THE ROADRUNNER ULTIMATE CHALLENGE
On Friday, October 18th, the Robert E. Melican Middle School will be hosting their first RoadRUNner Ultimate Challenge to raise $20,000 for the Melican PTO. This will be an obstacle course run for all students to participate in during the school day. The money collected goes to enriching the school experience for all students and staff throughout the year. The PTO financially supports enrichment programs, student field trip scholarships, teacher & staff grants, after school club requests & grants, and athletics to name a few. Jack O’Lantern Stroll happening in Northborough Town Common on October 25th
The Northborough Community Affairs Committee is excited to bring back the Jack O’Lantern Stroll and Contest this year! Northborough residents can drop off their carved and/or decorated pumpkins to display at the Northborough Town Common on Friday, October 25th from 3:30-6:00pm. This will be a fun, lively family event with music, candy, facepainting and tattoos! There will be donuts given out to those that come dressed in their costumes! All the pumpkins will be lit that evening and will be in the Town Common to see until Sunday evening. Voting will take place online over the weekend. Entry into the contest is for Northborough residents only, It is free to enter, although participants are encouraged to make a suggested donation to the Northborough Food Pantry. Horizons Playspace Seeking Volunteers
Horizons for Homeless Children is the state’s leading organization devoted exclusively to serving homeless children. They focus on helping young children mitigate the trauma and stress associated with homelessness. Their Playspace Program provides young children in shelter a safe and dedicated space to play, learn, and have fun! The Playspace includes toys and activities to engage creativity, imagination, physical and social development. Their Playspaces are staffed with trained, caring, adult volunteers, called PALs (Playspace Activity Leaders), who are committed to providing a positive and nurturing experience for children and families. PALs commit to volunteering at the same time and same shelter location for two hours each week. Town of Northborough Scholarship recipients named
The Town of Northborough Scholarship Committee awarded a total of $5,000 in 2024 scholarship funds to six graduating high school seniors. The recipients were Sylvia Gaskamp, JanetLou Guan, Landen Jorgensen, Ella Nofsinger, Lindsay Ogar, and Irene Shin. They were chosen based on their community service and employment experiences, school and extra-curricular activities, financial need, academic standing, and an essay response. All attended Algonquin Regional High School. Ogar was named the first recipient of the tribute scholarship made possible by the generous donation of long time Northborough residents Nisha and Chandra Vora. A portion of their $2,500 donation will be earmarked for five years for a student majoring in business or science/healthcare. The Vora’s donation is in honor of their three children – Ami, Avni, and Neel—who attended Northborough schools. Chandra is also a member of the Scholarship Committee. Committee Chair Liz Nolan said the scholarship fund relies solely on the generosity of the community as it does not receive any money from the town budget. The Summer Reading Booksale will be held at the Northborough Free Library on Friday, June 14, 2024 from noon-5PM and Saturday, June 15, from 9:30AM – 3 PM. Our Summer Reading Booksale will feature books, audiobooks, DVDs and CDs for kids, adults and teens. Books for sale will include fiction and non-fiction in both softcover and hardcover. Book prices will range from 50¢ – $1, with a few special priced books slightly higher. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Northborough Library programs, museum passes, and other items not covered by the standard budget. Northborough Helping Hands award scholarships
The Northborough Helping Hands Association, Inc. (NHHA) has announced the recipients of its 2024 scholarships. A generous community donation designated for scholarships has enabled NHHA to assist Northborough high school seniors to pursue their education journey. Algonquin Regional High School seniors Landen Jorgensen and Irene Shin will each receive $1,000. The mission of NHHA since 1920 has been to coordinate programs to assist those in need. Its goals are met while collaborating with town agencies, businesses, and organizations. It is volunteer run and the programs are a success due to the generosity of the community. The Thanksgiving food baskets and holiday gift program, winter coat and boot drive, and backpack drive are annual programs coordinated by NHHA. Additionally, the organization offers a free medical equipment loan program to Northborough residents for short or long-term use. Equipment loans are based on availability. Items include wheelchairs, transport chairs, canes, walkers, bath chairs and benches, crutches and more! Marie’s Book Buddies Friday Morning Book Club
Marie’s Book Buddies meet on the 2nd Friday of the month at 10:00am to 11:30am at the Northborough Free Library at 34 Main St., Northborough, MA. This book club has been meeting for over 10 years and is open to everyone. The book club has been called Marie’s Book Buddies for the last few years in honor of Marie Nieber, a longtime resident of Northborough and moderator of this book club. She passed away several years ago. The club reads a mix of contemporary Fiction, non-fiction, classics, and American history. Newcomers are welcome! Northborough Art Guild presents Art and Bloom
Come view an art show on June 8th and 9th from 10am to 4pm at the Northborough Historical Society, 52 Main St., Northborough, MA. The show will also feature floral arrangements by the Northborough Garden Club For information and applications, e-mail dalyford@hotmail.com. Applications for 3 paintings ($10.00 each for non-members) must be submitted by June 6. Drop off date is June 6, 6:30 – 7:30 at the Northborough Historical Society. Pick up is June 9, by 4:15.
