Teen empowerment groups to be held this summer

The Whole Child, Inc., a non-profit corporation based in Upton, is offering two, 6-week programs for middle school boys and girls at Trinity Church located at 23 Main Street. Both programs will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm beginning on July 18. There is a registration fee of $180.

Champions (Boys grades 6-8) – The group will teach boys that being a champion is more than having good athletic ability and winning games. They will learn that a champion has exemplary personal values and characteristics and who overcomes obstacles and strives to meet his own personal goals. A champion is someone who learns lessons from losses and is always striving to be the best version of himself (based in part from curriculum by Carol Miller). The group will include some fitness and exercise and will be run by a Social Coach and a Certified Personal Trainer. The group will meet in the Big Room at Trinity Church.

Fearless (Girls in grades 6-8)  – The group will be a fun and active group geared towards helping girls build confidence, navigate the complicated school social scene with integrity, learn strength of individuality and appreciation of diversity. A part of the curriculum will be from Stephanie Jensen’s “Thrive in the Hive” and will incorporate mindfulness techniques. The group is led by a social worker and licensed school adjustment counselor.   The group will meet in the Teen Room at Trinity Church.
