Open Circle Acupuncture and Healing will be hosting a workshop on “Self-Care for the Spirit” this Wednesday, May 9th, at 9:30 AM. Learn how to nourish and balance your emotions and stress levels by making healing choices with food, movement, breathing, supplements and herbs.
With the fast pace of modern life, most of us do not take nearly enough time to prioritize our own self-care. It becomes normal to run around day and night and not slow down enough to relax or take a deep breath. This can put our sympathetic nervous system into a perpetual state of ‘fight or flight’ where our stress hormones are constantly firing to keep up with the demands of life.
While the release of cortisol is important for focus and energy during times of acute stress, it is not meant to be activated all the time. In fact, it is unsustainable for your body and your health.
This workshop will help you re-activate the parasympathetic nervous system or the ‘rest and restore’ mode of life. This is the state our bodies should be in most of the time and can restore a more balanced state for our minds, emotions, energy and overall health.
This class will explore:
1. The different between the sympathetic (‘fight or flight) and parasympathetic (‘rest and restore’) nervous systems.
2. Foods that can have a healing and calming effect on the body
3. Herbs and supplements that activate the relaxation response
4. What an adaptogen is and how these herbs balance the stress response in the body
5. Learn the science behind deep breathing and how to activate the vagus nerve through breath work to calm stress.
6.Acupressure, movement and breathing techniques for tapping into the parasympathetic state.
The cost of the class is $20. To register, visit:
