Following is the statement that was submitted by the candidate.
My name is Amy Poretsky, and I am asking for your vote for my re-election to the Planning Board.
Being a lifelong resident to Northborough, I have seen Northborough evolve and grow through the years. I am grateful to have been a part of the Planning Board and look forward to continuing that role to be a part of the important decisions that will help to shape our community for the future.
The Northborough Zoning bylaws were written to shape and protect our neighborhoods and community while promoting beneficial growth. Updates and changes are made annually and as a member of the Planning Board I have always been open to listening to residents and businesses with their concerns and ideas about how to strengthen our town. I also spend a great deal of time researching laws, bylaws and their effects on communities. I regularly attend classes on current bylaws and zoning along with seminars for land protection. These classes keep me up to date on current trends in zoning and community preservation.
The Northborough Planning Board has been doing some really great things recently including strengthening bylaws to protect our groundwater and wells from hazardous waste and working on a solar bylaw. This year we also hope to implement our newly approved Master Plan. I was an active participant of the Master Plan committee, and if re-elected to the Planning Board I look forward to continuing with that effort.
Early in my first term I was on the 39 W Main Street Ad-Hoc Committee, which was charged with deciding what to do with a town owned property on that site. The Northborough Town Common was a vision I shared with a few dedicated residents and together we worked for five years to bring this special project to completion. We are hoping to have the dedication for the Northborough Town Common and the Memorials sometime this year.
While a member on the Planning Board, I have been an active member on our Open Space Committee, Groundwater Committee, and the Master Plan Committee. I have also co-chaired the Northborough Town Common Committee, a grassroots driven committee spearheaded by members of the community.
I graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a business degree, majoring in finance and operations management. After graduation I worked at Raytheon and since then, volunteered in many positions in the Northborough schools and the Town of Northborough. More importantly, I am a lifelong resident of Northborough where together with my husband, Scott, we are raising our three children. We have enjoyed raising our children in this wonderful community.
I ask for continued support and your vote for Planning Board. If you have any questions or would like to reach me you could email me at amypsky@gmail.com or follow my Facebook Page “Amy Poretsky – Northborough Planning Board”.
Mail-in ballots are available now by request from the Town Clerk and you will also be able to vote in person on June 30, 2020.
Thank you ?
