If you suffer from frequent or severe migraines, you are not alone. In the U.S., more than 37 million people suffer from migraines. Some migraine studies estimate that 13 percent of adults in the U.S. population have migraines, and 2-3 million migraine suffers are chronic.
Almost 5 million in the U.S. experience at least one migraine attack per month, while more than 11 million people blame migraines for causing moderate to severe disability.
The possible causes range from stress, muscle tension, sinus pressure, hormonal changes, exposure to environmental toxins to food intolerances or concussions. Frequently, I find that an overworked liver, often due to intake of alcohol, medications or unhealthy diet is a trigger. I also suspect food or environmental allergies to set off Migraines.
Acupuncture provides a natural way to treat migraines by promoting the body’s own ability to heal. It is a complete medical system that is used to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease, and improve well-being and addresses problems on many levels.
In Chinese Medicine all the above causes are seen as blocked energy along the meridian pathways. Through questioning, I identify the root cause, and with the help of Acupuncture, medicinal herbs and dietary suggestions help to clear the blockage. Regular Acupuncture treatment helps decrease the frequency and severity of migraines or eliminate them completely.
My recent successes are in treating migraines due to concussions. Often very difficult to treat with medication, Acupuncture helps calm and heal the injured brain, having a very calming effect on the patient.
