The Northborough Board of Selectmen met on June 14. The full meeting can be viewed on YouTube at Northborough Remote Meetings.
A few highlights of the meeting:
- Welcome Daniel Martin who was named as the newest Northborough Police Officer effective Tuesday, June 15.
- There was discussion regarding former Selectmen Tim Kaelin to continue as Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Assistant Town Administrator Becca Meekins attends all the Selectmen meetings, as well as the Diversion & Inclusion meetings, and is able to share informational updates regularly.
- The Board voted to rescind the Local State of Emergency effective 12:01 am on June 15, 2021 to coincide with the timing of the end of the State of Emergency in Massachusetts.
- State municipalities are awaiting the State’s ruling as how to proceed with remote meetings after the State of Emergency is lifted. Northborough does not have legal authority to continue remote meetings until confirmed by the State. The Board will have to make policy decisions once that decision is made. The intention of the Board is in favor to preserve the public’s remote participation in meetings, which has been high during the pandemic. The technology piece would have to be worked out when the town understands what will be allowed by the State.
- On June 10, Planning Board Chair Kerri Martinek, Select Board member Julianne Hirsh and Health Agent Kristin Black attended the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission’s annual meeting. Black accepted an award for the Regional Collaboration for Central MA Boards of Health.
