Board of Selectmen meeting updates

Board of Selectmen meeting updates

The Northborough Board of Selectmen (BOS) met on May 17.

On the top of the agenda was an update from Health Agent Kristin Black on the Regional Vaccination Clinic located in Westborough. This site is due to close at the end of June. Don’t worry if you have had your first dose at this site, you will be able to have your second dose there as well.

  • If anyone still requires assistance to make a vaccination appointment, please reach out to the Health Department who has the ability to make an appointment even if one doesn’t appear online.
  • Northborough leads the state of Massachusetts for communities with over 10,000 people who have received their first dose, (77%). Stats on percentages of people by age group who have been vaccinated include:  Age 65+: 95%, 50-64: 92%, 30-39: 95%, 20-29: 86%. Children ages 0-19 is at 21%, but this data was taken before it was opened up to 12-15 year olds.

Other news:

  • The town is still waiting back to hear from the state regarding guidelines to continue zoom meetings after restrictions are lifted for in-person meetings. Even if the state gives a thumbs up, there may be some technology issues to figure out how to record a meeting with both remote and in person participants. Stay tuned to the June BOS meetings when this will likely be discussed further.
  • A reminder that any traffic concerns you may have can be reported via the Department of Public works page on the town website. There is also a Frequently Asked Questions link that may be able to answer your questions.
  • Selectmen Julianne Hirsh was nominated to be the new Master Plan Implementation Committee (MPIC) representative from the Board. The long awaited start to the MPIC meetings is slated to be in June.
  • The annual town clean up was a success. A 30-yard dumpster was filled with trash. Well done residents!
  • A annual grant of $300,000 was awarded to Northborough, who is the lead town, as part of the state Public Health Excellence Grant Program for Shared Services. The Boards of Health of Northborough, Westborough, Southborough and Boylston will benefit from this grant as they can share services, which will help to increase efficiency. Nursing services and inspection services are included in the shared resources. It’s a three year initial grant that can potentially be renewed for nine years.
