December kids’ programs at the library

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for December 2021. The schedule continues to bring favorites and new programs and events. Online registration is required for most programs. The library respectfully asks that you wear a mask and/or practice social distancing while participating in in-person events. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. SPECIAL EVENTS:

  • Cookie Hunt: Tuesday, December 21, 4-8:30 p.m. (children’s room). Stop by the library for a special cookie-themed scavenger hunt with a delicious prize. Find all of our hidden gingerbread characters and collect a take-home cookie decorating kit as your prize while supplies last. No registration required but caregivers should note that cookie kits may run out before the official program end-time.
  • Family Minute to Win It: Tuesday, December 28, 3-4 p.m. (meeting room). Families will have one minute to complete various simple challenges and rise up the leaderboard. The winning family will take home a small prize. Grown ups and kids are encouraged to participate together. Best suited for families with elementary aged children. Space is limited and registration is required.
  • Noon Year’s Eve Party: Thursday, December 30, 10-10:30 a.m. (meeting room). Ring in the New Year in style! Share some New Year stories, play silly games and do a fun craft. Then count down to noon with us to ring in the New Year with a big balloon drop. Space is limited; registration is required.

MONDAYS

  • December 13: Lego Club Ornament Edition (3-5 p.m.). Kids are invited to make a Lego ornament to take home with them. Registration is required.

TUESDAYS

  • December 7, 14, 21, 28 (10-10:30 a.m.) Alphabits Storytime. Storytime for children ages 3-5 to promote literacy, develop classroom skills and develop familiarity with the alphabet. Each week, the focus will be on a different letter. Registration required.
  • December 14 (4-4:30 p.m.) Beginning Reader Book Club. Newly independent readers will practice reading out loud by working through a story together in a small group. Best suited for kindergarten-aged students. Books are available to borrow in advance in the Children’s Room. Please register.
  • December 14, 28 (6:30-7:00 p.m.). PJ Storytime. Get dressed in your pajama best and join Ms. Lindsay for a bedtime themed story time. Bring your favorite stuffed animal and enjoy cozy stories to end the night right Best suited for families with children ages 2-6. Registration required.

WEDNESDAYS

  • December 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30 -11 a.m.). Mother Goose on the Loose. An early literacy program for children ages birth-2 years. Sing, rhyme and bounce along with musical instruments, puppets, and other props. Registration required.
  • December 1, 8 (1-2 p.m.) Young Scientists with STEM Beginnings. Six week enrichment series facilitated by STEM Beginnings for children ages 3-5 with a parent/caregiver. Learn STEM concepts through hands-on activities, story time, challenges and simple experiments. Please register. Sponsored by the YMCA Family & Community Partnership, a grant funded by the Department of Early Education and Care.
  • December 15 (6-7 p.m.) Graphic Novel Book Club in the Meeting Room. Read a graphic novel each month then come to the meeting to discuss it and make a craft or play a game. This program is for kids in grades 3-5. Parents and caregivers for those younger than 10 must remain on the library premises while their children participate in this independent book club. Books will be available to check out in advance in the Children’s Room. Registration is required.

THURSDAYS

  • December 2, 9, 16, 23 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Mashup. Designed for children ages 2 through 5. Instruments, scarves, and other toys will be used while we read, dance to music and make some noise. Registration is required.

FRIDAYS

  • December 3, 17 (10-10:30 a.m.) Toddler Time. This story time is filled with age- and developmentally-appropriate stories, songs, movement activities, and fingerplay. For children ages 2 and 3 years old with a favorite adult! No registration required.

SATURDAYS

  • December 4, 11, 18: Crafternoon Kits. Drop by the library Children’s Room every Saturday to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Kits are available for pick up from 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Saturdays while supplies last.
  • December 4 (10-10:30 a.m.) Color Me a Story in the Meeting Room. Drop in for a quick story and color a themed coloring page. For families with children ages 2 through 6. Registration is required.
  • December 11 (10-10:30 a.m.) Mother Goose on the Loose. This is an early literacy program for children ages birth through 2 years. Sing, rhyme and bounce along with musical instruments, puppets, and other props. Registration is required.
  • December 18 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Mashup Remix. An engaging and interactive program developed for families with children ages 2-5. Instruments, scarves and other toys will be used while we read, dance to music and make some noise! Registration required.
