Documentary on plastic use and recycling being shown at library
The Northborough Library is hosting the showing of the documentary film, Bag It, on Saturday, April 6 from 2-5 pm in the library’s meeting room located at 34 Main Street. A discussion will follow the viewing of the film.
Every five minutes, Americans use 60,000 single-use plastic bags disposable bags that are then throw away. But where is “away?” Bag It follows “everyman” Jeb Berrier as he navigates our plastic world. Jeb’s journey in this documentary film starts with simple questions: “Are plastic bags really necessary?” “What are plastic bags made from?” “What happens to plastic bags after they are discarded?”
Jeb looks beyond plastic bags and discovers that virtually everything in modern society–from baby bottles, to sports equipment, to dental sealants, to personal care products–is made with plastic or contains potentially harmful chemical additives used in the plastic-making process. We see how our crazy-for-plastic world has caught up with us, and what we can do about it.
The movie will be followed by a recycling demo led by Algonquin Regional High School students. Come learn about how we can improve our recycling stream and increase the value of recyclable materials. Products made with recycled content will be displayed.

Members of the Sustainable Northborough Citizens Group will be on hand to discuss the proposed plastics reduction bylaws ahead of Town Meeting.

Registration is not required, but attendees should plan to participate in both the viewing and the discussion of the film.
