The Northborough Police Department has begun its Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign targeting impaired driving.
The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, Highway Safety Division awarded grants to the state and 139 selected police departments for enhanced traffic enforcement in their communities. The funds were made available from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The grant will allow the Northborough Police and other departments to put more officers on the road to conduct zero-tolerance, high visibility impaired driving enforcement patrols at high incident locations throughout Massachusetts.
Complementing these efforts will be Drug Recognition Experts, officers trained in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement and sobriety checkpoints featuring Breath Alcohol Testing Mobiles.
The campaign also serves to educate the public that alcohol and marijuana are impairments and that drivers should find safe alternatives to driving drunk, high or stoned.
The mobilization runs from December 13 through December 31.
