The Assabet Valley Mastersingers will perform with orchestra at Congregation B’nai Shalom located at 117 East Main Street in Westborough on Saturday, November 16 at 8 pm.

“Building Traditions: From Psalm to Mass” will feature two works born in times of tumult. Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass (Mass in Time of Distress) was composed during the Napoleonic Wars but foreshadowed Nelson’s victories. Chichester Psalms was conceived by Leonard Bernstein shortly after President Kennedy’s assassination and the murder of close friend Marc Blitzstein. In combining Jewish and Christian choral traditions Bernstein was implicitly pleading for peace in the young country of Israel. AVM’s Artistic Director Robert P. Eaton will conduct the ensemble including soloists soprano Dana Lynne Varga; mezzo Pamela Dellal; tenor Gregory Zavracky; and baritone John Salvi.

Concert tickets may be purchased online or in advance at Gray’s Carpet Center, Northborough; David French Music Co., Westborough; Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union; English Gardens Florist, Southborough; Serendipity Jewelry, Art, & Whimsy, Hudson; and Joy-Den Jewelers and Main Street Café in Marlborough. Advance sale tickets from outlets in these six towns are discounted $3 from the regular price of $25 and $20 for students and senior citizens.
