Why this fundraiser?

A parents story: “We believe everyone is affected by mental illness, whether personally, a family member, co-worker or neighbor. My husband and I worked with Jake on the symptoms of mental illness that he was diagnosed with but had no idea of the darkness he experienced before dying by suicide.”

The goal is to start educating our younger population so they know they are not alone in any feelings or thoughts that they are having and it is ok to talk about it. The best way to reach a majority of our younger population is in our schools where they are in a safe environment surrounded by teachers and staff that can support them. That is why we chose the Shine Initiative to receive 100% of the proceeds of this tournament.

About the Shine Initiative:  The mission is to combat discrimination and to de-stigmatize mental health conditions in children and young adults, though our work with schools and communities. Find out more at www.shineinitiative.org.
