March children’s library programs announced

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for March 2022. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4. Registration from the library’s event page is needed for many of the programs.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

  • A Celtic Celebration with Davis Bates: Saturday, March 5, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Join storyteller Davis Bates for tales and songs from Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Enjoy stories of seal folk and wee folk, and sing-alongs galore to get ready for St. Patrick’s Day. Registration is required.
  • Fostering Healthy Body Image in a Body Shaming World: Tuesday, March 15, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Join Dr. Caryn Bellow, licensed clinical psychologist and community educator to explore the realities of raising children in a world that focuses so much on body image. Learn several strategies to build a healthy body image in your children, from limiting media exposure to shifting conversations away from societal stereotypes. Q&A session available at the end of the program. Registration is required.

MONDAYS

  • Lego Club: March 21, 3-5 p.m. Kids can free-build or complete our challenge of the week. Registration is required.

TUESDAYS

  • Alphabits Storytime: March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; 10-10:30 a.m. For children ages 3-5 to promote early literacy, develop classroom skills, and develop familiarity with the alphabet. Each storytime in this 26 week series will focus on a different letter and use stories, songs, crafts, games and more to help kids recognize letters and the sounds they make. Please register.
  • Beginning Reader Book Club: March 22, 4-4:30 p.m. Newly independent readers will practice reading out loud by working through a story together in a small group. Best suited to kindergarten aged children. Books are available to borrow in advance in the Children’s Room. Registration needed.

WEDNESDAYS

  • Mother Goose on the Loose: March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; 9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11 a.m. This early literacy program supports your child’s development through story, songs, rhymes, bouncing and fingerplays. Musical instruments and puppets will further children’s early learning skills. Best suited for children birth-2 with a favorite adult. Please register.
  • Young Scientists with STEM Beginnings: March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; 1-1:45 p.m. A six week program facilitated by STEM Beginnings for children ages 3-6 with a parent/caregiver. Learn STEM concepts through hands-on activities, a story, and simple experiments. Please register. Sponsored by the YMCA Family & Community Partnership.
  • Read to Finnegan: March 9, 16, 23, 30; 3:15-4 p.m. Sign up for 15 minute time slots to read to your very special “read” dog. Finnegan is trained to sit with your child and listen to them read. This kind of support from lovable pups can foster your child’s self confidence, build reading skills and it’s just plain fun!
  • Graphic Novel Book Club: March 16, 6-7 p.m. Kids in grades 3-5 will meet each month to discuss a graphic novel and make a craft or play a game. Parents and caregivers for those younger than 10 must remain on the library premise while their children participate in this independent book club. Books are available to check out in advance in the Children’s Room. Please register.

THURSDAYS

  • Music Mashup: March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; 10-10:30 a.m. An engaging and interactive program developed for families with children ages 2-5. Instruments, scarves and other toys will be used while reading and dancing to music. Registration is required.

FRIDAYS

  • Toddler Time: March 4, 18, 25; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore a weekly theme while enjoying age and developmentally appropriate stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplay. Geared towards children ages 2-3 with a favorite adult. Please register.

SATURDAYS

  • Crafternoon Kits: March 5, 12, 19, 26; 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Drop by the library every Saturday to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Crafternoon kits are available for pick up while supplies last on the designated dates.
  • Color Me A Story: March 5, 10-10:30 a.m. Drop in for a quick story and color a themed coloring page. For families with children ages 2-6. Registration required.
  • Five Senses Storytime: March 19, 10-10:30 a.m. Investigate the senses through stories and songs. Create a piece of process art that focuses on one or more of the senses. Best suited for children ages 3-7. Families and siblings are welcome. Please register.
