First Annual Culture Fest of Music & Arts

First Annual Culture Fest of Music & Arts

The Northborough Cultural Council (NCC) is excited to present the First Annual Culture Fest of Music & Arts during the Applefest weekend. The event will be free and will take place on Sunday, September 16, 2018 between 12 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. on the grounds of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, at 40 Church St.

NCC’s vision is to support diversified programs in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences for the cultural benefit and enrichment of the community. In this enthusiastic pursuit, the First Annual Culture Fest of Music & Arts will feature live music, dance, a visual art gallery, a junior artist exhibit, a kids’ corner and food trucks.

Newly appointed Selectman and the NCC liaison Julianne Hirsh will also give a quick welcome.

Hometown talents will perform including Lori Diamond and Fred Abatelli, Ed Harlow’s Soular Jazz, and Chambersingers from Assabet Valley Mastersingers, as well as greater Boston’s exuberant Boston Scottish Fiddle Orchestra and Indian dances from Shaila School of Dance.

The musical and dance performances will take a break at 2 p.m. for the Applefest parade and will reconvene at 3:15 p.m.

The visual art gallery will feature the paintings of Northborough’s own Lisa Hayden, the quilts of Terry Crean, as well as the work of multi-media artist Ted Lilley, travel photographer Teri Ton, and photography focusing on nature prints of local animals by Brendon Curtis. The junior art exhibit will include Northborough’s own young artists Ellie Ouano and  Olivia Kardos and paintings submitted for the Scholarship Art Contest of the Northborough Education Foundation (NEF).

In the kids’ corner, families will be entertained with live caricature drawing by Mary Hanley, henna tattoos, arts and crafts.

The food trucks will be a culinary representation of the cultural and ethnic mix of the community.

Volunteers (age 12+) and young artists to participate in the junior art exhibit are still needed.  If interested, email ylangnguyen15@gmail.com.

Come together and share the joy and harmony that culture can bring to your lives at the First Annual Culture Fest!
