The Algonquin PTO (APTO) has already raised 35 percent of its goal of $32,000 to date! There’s a long way to go and the entire Northborough and Southborough communities are being asked to continue to provide support to fund the post prom parties the junior and senior classes this year. Deadline to donate is Friday, April 1.
THE HISTORY: Historically, Algonquin Regional High School holds a Junior Prom (students purchase a ticket from the school) and the APTO sponsors a Junior Post Prom experience that provides a free, safe place for the students to go after the prom and celebrate the rest of the evening. Typically, this fun and memorable event runs from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. and provides a multitude of food and experiences including a DJ, remote control car racing, mechanical bull, arcade games, hypnotist, caricaturists, obstacle course, airbrush tattoos, and ice skating. Typically 300-350 students attend the post prom party at the New England Sports Complex, and students may attend regardless if they go to the prom or not. Fundraising for this post prom event usually is done just prior to the event.
THE CHALLENGE: Because the prom was canceled for the past two years, this year the high school will be hosting both a Junior and Senior class prom. The dates are Saturday, April 30 for the Junior Class of 2022 and Friday, May 20 for the Senior Class of 2022. The APTO will need to sponsor and fundraise for two Post Prom Parties this year. In 2019, the post prom party cost was approximately $16,000. With two parties this year, the APTO is presented with the challenge to raise $32,000!
