It isn’t the holiday season in Northborough until it’s the annual Holiday Trolley Day. The fun happens on Saturday, December 1 from 12 noon – 5 pm and is followed by the town tree lighting ceremony, caroling and cookies at 5:00 pm at Blake Street.
The Northboro Holiday Trolley has become a festive tradition in town since 2005. The complimentary trolley runs from one end of town to the other stopping at various businesses to encourage folks to shop local. Many of the businesses offer events, special discounts, and holiday fare. Additionally, there are stops at churches and the town library where other events are featured. The spirit of the day is encouraged with the help of elves and musicians on the trolleys.
As you travel the town on the trolley, collect raffle tickets at each participating store you visit and on the trolley and enter to win a number of great prizes from local merchants. All raffle tickets can be brought to the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:00 pm and turned in at the Northboro Trolley table.
The annual tree lighting began in 1968 in honor of the memory of Neil Ellsworth, an Army Pfc., who was killed in Vietnam in 1967 at the age of 19. Born and raised in Northborough, Ellsworth was the first town resident to die in the Vietnam War. Every year the town of Northborough and the Ellsworth family light the tree in memory of this fallen hero.
Please join us for a fun filled day of holiday cheer and local business support.
