The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for February 2023. The schedule continues to bring favorites and new programs and events. SPECIAL PROGRAMS
- Stitched Heart Keychain Craft. Tuesday, Feb. 7; 4:30-5:30 p.m. Craft to your heart’s content with this fun heart-shaped keychain. This craft workshop is designed for creative kids in grades 3-5. Please register.
- Valentine Crafternoon. Monday, Feb. 13; 3-6 p.m. Drop by the library to create your very own love bug, just in time for V-Day. All supplies provided. Best for kids ages 4+. No registered needed.
- Pajama Day. Tuesday, Feb. 14; 9:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Show your love of all things cozy by wearing your favorite pajamas to the library. Bring your stuffed animal and get a special sticker. Make sure to stop by Dr. Taco’s tank to check out her cozy jammies. A special scavenger hunt and coloring pages will be available all day.
- MarioKart Tournament. Tuesday, Feb. 21; 4-7 p.m. Go out for a spin and hurl some shells in our upcoming free Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tournament. Players will compete in a Mario Kart 8 tournament amongst their peers. Nintendo Switch controllers will be available to use, but players are welcome to bring in their own. For kids in grades 2-5; please register.
- Flicknic. Wednesday, Feb. 22; 12-2 p.m. Pack a lunch and a blanket and come enjoy a movie on the big screen. We will be showing Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. Rated PG. Perfect for family fun. No registration required.
- Humpty-Dumpty’s Egg Drop Challenge. Friday, Feb. 24; 2-3 p.m. Come put your engineering skills to the test by building a special protective container to cushion your very own Humpty-Dumpty from a great fall. This program is specially designed for family participation. Registration required.
MONDAYS
- Beginning Reader Book Club: February 6; 4:30-5 p.m. Perfect for children just learning to read. Read a book aloud together, followed by a fun art project. This month’s book is Mice on Ice, by Ed and Rebecca Emberley. Registration is required.
- Lego Club: February 27; 3-5 p.m. Kids can free-built or complete the challenge of the week. Register to receive an email reminder.
- Graphic Novel Book Club: February 27; 6:30-7:30 p.m. Read a graphic novel each month then come to the meeting to discuss it and make a craft or play a game. This program is for kids in grades 3-5. Books are chosen the month before by club members and will be available to check out in advance at the children’s desk. Registration is required.
TUESDAYS
- PJ Storytime. February 14; 6:30-7:00 p.m. Join Miss Lindsay for a cozy story and soothing rhymes. Bring your favorite stuffed friend. This program is for families and registration is not required.
- Music Mashup: February 7, 14, 21, 28; 10-10:30 a.m. An interactive program developed for families with children ages 2-5. Instruments, scarves, and other manipulatives will be used while reading, dancing to music and making noise.
WEDNESDAYS
- Read to Finnagan. February 1, 8, 15; 3:30-4:15 p.m. Sign up to read to our very special “read” dog. Finnegan is trained to sit with your child and listen to them read. This kind of support from lovable pups can foster your child’s self-confidence, build reading skills and it’s just plain fun. Sign up for a 15-minute time slot on the events page.
- Mother Goose on the Loose: February 1, 8, 15 22; 9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11 a.m. A special storytime for our littlest patrons. This is an early literacy program that supports your child’s development through story, song, rhyme, movement, and more. This program is best suited for children ages birth-2 years old with a favorite adult. No registration required.
- NOBO Kids Book Club: February 15; 6:30-7:15 p.m. Calling all first and second graders for NOBO Kids book club. Each month we will introduce an exciting book series. We will read the first chapter or two aloud, then discuss what we’ve read and do a fun craft or activity together. Copies of the book will be available for checkout after the meeting. Please register.
THURSDAYS
- Preschool Story Time: February 2, 9, 16; 10-10:30 a.m. or 1-130 p.m. A storytime with a little independence. Preschoolers ages 4-5 are invited to join Ms. Lindsay for some stories and a fun craft or activity. Grown-ups remain outside of our program for this special storytime. No registration required.
- Drop-In Craft. February 23; 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Whirlygig. It’s really fun to say and even more to play. Stop in and make your own colorful, twirling toy.
- Buildwave. February 23, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Want to foster your child’s interest in STEM, while igniting their creative spark at the same time? Buildwave is a creative building program that feels like a video game. Over the course of the workshop, students create with over a dozen different building materials including Legos, PlusPlus and custom-made Buildwave materials. The workshop is structured like a video game, with an audiovisual setup featuring animations and music that guide students through the different building waves. As your child creates with wave after wave of new objects, they build creative confidence, become better collaborators, and encounter design and engineering fundamentals in a unique and memorable context. For kids in grades K-5. Please register.
FRIDAYS
- Toddler Time: February 3, 10, 17, 24; 10-10:30 a.m. This story time is filled with age- and developmentally-appropriate stories, songs, movement activities, and fingerplay. For children ages 2 and 3 years old with a favorite adult! No registration required.
- Toddler Zone Playtime. February 10, 17, 24; 10:30-11:30 a.m. Head over to the Room of Requirement after Toddler Time, because it’s time to play. The room’s door will be closed and special toys brought out for use only during this time. No registration required. Families with toddler aged children (1-3) are welcome.
- Chess Club. February 3, 17; 3:45-4:45 p.m. Elementary-aged kids are invited to learn chess basics and useful strategies from local teen pros and challenge their friends to play in a relaxed environment. Club meets every other week; please register.
- Young Scientists. February 10, 17; 1-2 p.m. Join us for a 6-week STEM series facilities by STEM Beginnings. Children ages 3-6, with a parent/caregiver, will learn STEM concepts through hands-on activities, a story and simple experiments. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to help their child and join in the fun. Siblings are welcome. Please register.
SATURDAYS
- 5 Senses Storytime. February 11; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore one of the five senses with stories and a process art activity. For families with children ages 3-6. Registration requested.
- Crafternoon Kits: February 18; 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Drop by the library to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Kits are available for pick up from 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. while supplies last. Sponsored by the Northboro Junior Woman’s Club.
- Color Me A Story: February 18; 10-10:30 a.m. Join Miss Rachael for a story or two and a fun coloring page. The theme this month is Get Moving! For families. No registration needed.
- Mother Goose on the Loose: February 4; 10-10:30 a.m. This is an early literacy program for children ages birth through 2 years. Sing, rhyme and bounce along with musical instruments, puppets, and other props.
- Flutter & Roar Storytime. February 25; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore the animal kingdom in this creature-centric storytime. We will read stories and do an activity inspired by one of our wild friends. This program is designed for families with kids preschool age and up. Please register.
