In case you missed the Northborough School Committee K-8 (NSC) meeting on Jan. 6, here is a quick recap:
- The District hopes to use Federal CARES Act money to test all students Pre-K to age 22. Currently, District staff and high school students have been tested. The expansion to include all students is the direction they have wanted to go all along as part of their mitigation process. Details coming soon.
- Did you know that the English Learner Education program works with 107 K-8 students who speak 21 languages? The top three spoken languages in the homes where English is not the main language include Portuguese, Spanish and Arabic.
- Parents recently completed a survey to give feedback on the learning environments for their children. One theme was that parents are truly grateful for the teaching staff. Overall, parents think things are working out well under the circumstances. A plus for the hybrid model is that the in-school classes are smaller. On the reverse side, the Stand Alone Remote Program (SARP) parents feel that some of the classes are too large. Lack of socialization opportunities is also a concern and the schools are working on ways to increase those opportunities through enrichment programs and clubs.
- The District is looking at ways to increase in-person instruction using data and guidance.
- Don’t forget that the District’s COVID Dashboad is updated weekly.
