Library announces April kids’ programs

There’s a lot going on at the Northborough Library Children’s Department in April, including special programs for school vacation week. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4. Registration from the library’s events page is needed for many of the programs.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

  • For parents/caregivers. Different Children, Different Needs. April 6; 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jeanine Fitzgerald will bring her experience as a certified teacher, mental health professional and mother of three grown children to this workshop for caregivers. The session is designed to reveal the essence of every child and what nurtures their greatness. Understanding the seven major influences on behavior and development is critical to ensuring that every child we relate to and interact with is visible, valued and supported in their own way. Discover the layers of possibilities waiting to unfold and the strengths each child brings to this world. This will be revealed through a research-based model of temperament that honors the differences among us. Please register.
  • Mario Party. Tuesday, April 19; 1-2 p.m. Kick off vacation week with a party celebrating all things Mario! Games, snacks, a craft and more will be enjoyed. Families are welcome. Space is limited so please register early.
  • Folktales from Asia with Motoko. Wednesday, April 20, 1-2 p.m. Parents’ Choice Award-winning storyteller Motoko enchants families (ages 5+) with fun folktales from Asia, combined with songs, mime and origami. Every child receives Motoko’s original paper sumo game. Families are welcome. Space is limited and registration is required. The program is funded in part by a Northborough Cultural Council grant, a local agency supported by the Mass Cultural Council.
  • Kirby Cupcake Decorating. Wednesday, April 20, 2-6 p.m. Decorate a cupcake that looks like one of our favorite video game heroes-Kirby. All materials will be provided. Best suited for kids in grades 1-5. No registration is required, but supplies are limited and may run out before the official program end-time.
  • Among Us IRL. Thursday, April 21, 1-1:45 p.m. or 2-2:45 p.m. Step out of the virtual world and into a game of Among Us…In Real Life! Kids in grades 3-5 are invited to take on the roles of crewmates and imposters. Crewmates will try to identify and vote out the imposters. Imposters will try to sabotage the mission and pick off crewmates. Who’s sus? Who can you trust? Who will win? Space is limited so please register.
  • Perler Bead Pixel Art. Friday, April 22; 1-4 p.m. Stop by the library to make your own 8-bit masterpiece using perler beads to make a Minecraft sword, a bag of bells, a 1-Up mushroom or anything that strikes your fancy. Best suited for elementary-aged kids. All materials will be provided. Photos will be provided for inspiration, but feel free to bring your own design as well. No registration is required.
  • Flicknic: Detective Pikachu. Friday, April 22; 1:30-3:30 p.m. Come for a showing of Detective Pikachu. Families can bring a snack or light lunch and watch a movie on the big screen with friends. No registration is required.

MONDAYS

  • Lego Club. April 11; 3-5 p.m. Kids can free-build or complete our challenge of the week. Registration is required.

TUESDAYS

  • Alphabits Storytime. April 5, 12, 19, 26; 10-10:30 a.m. For children ages 3-5 to promote early literacy, develop classroom skills, and develop familiarity with the alphabet. Each storytime in this 26 week series will focus on a different letter and use stories, songs, crafts, games and more to help kids recognize letters and the sounds they make. Please register.
  • Beginning Reader Book Club. April 26; 4-4:30 p.m. Newly independent readers will practice reading out loud by working through a story together in a small group. Best suited to kindergarten-aged children. Books are available to borrow in advance in the Children’s Room. Registration needed.

WEDNESDAYS

  • Mother Goose on the Loose. April 6, 13, 20, 27; 9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:00 a.m. This early literacy program supports your child’s development through story, songs, rhymes, bouncing and fingerplays. Musical instruments and puppets will further children’s early learning skills. Best suited for children birth-2 with a favorite adult. Please register.
  • Read to Finnegan. April 6, 13, 27, 3:15-4:00 p.m. Sign up for 15 minute time slots to read to your very special “read” dog. Finnegan is trained to sit with your child and listen to them read. This kind of support from lovable pups can foster your child’s self confidence, build reading skills and it’s just plain fun!
  • Graphic Novel Book Club. April 27; 6-7 p.m. Kids in grades 3-5 will meet each month to discuss a graphic novel and make a craft or play a game. Parents and caregivers for those younger than 10 must remain on the library premise while their children participate in this independent book club. Books are available to check out in advance in the Children’s Room. Please register.

THURSDAYS

  • Music Mashup. April 7, 14, 21, 28; 10-10:30 a.m. An engaging and interactive program developed for families with children ages 2-5. Instruments, scarves and other toys will be used while reading and dancing to music. Registration is required.

FRIDAYS

  • Toddler Time. April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore a weekly theme while enjoying age and developmentally appropriate stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplay. Geared towards children ages 2-3 with a favorite adult. Please register.

SATURDAYS

  • Crafternoon Kits. April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; 9:30 a.m.-5:00 pm. Drop by the library every Saturday to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Crafternoon kits are available for pick up while supplies last on the designated dates.
  • Stories, Songs & Stretches. April 2; 10-10:30 a.m. Kids and their caregivers are invited to play together through stories, songs, and yoga shapes. No experience necessary! Best suited for families with children ages 4-7. Please register.

  • Bunny Brunch Storytime. April 16; 10-10:30 a.m. Hop by the library for a bunny-themed storytime. Decorate a pair of rabbit ears and enjoy some stories and a small snack. Best suited for families with children ages 2-7. Registration is required for each child to reserve a snack. Space is limited.
  • Color Me A Story. April 23, 10-10:30 a.m. Drop in for a quick story and color a themed coloring page. For families with children ages 2-6. Registration required.
  • Five Senses Storytime. April 30; 10-10:45 a.m.  Investigate the senses through stories and songs. Create a piece of process art that focuses on one or more of the senses. Best suited for children ages 3-7. Families and siblings are welcome. Please register.
