Library hosts community programs/workshops: fitness, meditation, native plant winter sow, Narcan training

The Northborough Library invites the community to its December programs.

  • OFFICE WORKOUT SERIES (Virtual Program): Every Tuesday in December 10-10:30 a.m. (Remote on Zoom). REGISTER ONLINE. Participants will receive a Zoom link in the registration confirmation for this event.

Do you intend to work out, but don’t get to it because you’re too tired after a long day of work?  Workout at work!  Join us for this fun and active virtual program where we will be participating in exercises as we learn about the health benefits and how to squeeze exercises into our busy lifestyle.  There are many benefits of incorporating exercises and stretching into your workday, some of which include:  increased energy, decreased stress, decreased risk of injury, increased mind/body connection, increased bone and muscle mass, increased metabolism and many more, so sign up today!  No experience necessary.  All levels are welcome.

  • PRACTICE THE PAUSE GUIDED MEDITATION: Tuesday, December 6,12-12:30 p.m. (Remote on Zoom) REGISTER ONLINE. Zoom link will be provided after completing registration.

Join us for a 30-minute guided meditation to create some space in the day to rest and recover. Sessions will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout December starting at noontime and will be offered virtually. Types of meditations that will be offered include breath awareness practice, body scan meditations, open awareness practice and loving kindness/gratitude practice. The sessions will be led by Joanna Graham. She completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) level one teacher training through the Mindfulness Center at Brown University and has held a personal meditation practice for the past 5 years.  Creating space in the day to practice has proven to be challenging at times but also extremely worthwhile.  The intent of this “Practice the Pause” guided meditation is to set a mark on the calendar, twice a week, to create a little space to just…be! 

  • STRESS PROOFING THE HOLIDAYS: Wednesday December 7, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Remote on Zoom) REGISTER ONLINE.

Join us for this 1-hour, virtual workshop presented by Peg Doyle and learn ways to stress proof the holiday season by managing common stressors such as overeating, uncomfortable conversations, overspending…and more! Peg Doyle is a passionate clinician and educator, dedicated to helping individuals and groups achieve lifelong wellness.  She established her practice, Wellness and You, in 1998 in Westwood, MA.  She aims to deliver simple tools to her audience that creates balance and a sense of well-being.  Her presentation on stress management will leave you with a new perspective as she gives you techniques that will keep you calm and focused.

  • NATIVE PLANT WINTER SOW WORKSHOP: Saturday December 10, 10:00 -11:30 a.m. (In person in the meeting room at the Northborough Free Library.) REGISTER ONLINE. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Join us for an interactive workshop hosted by the Watson Park Pollination Preservation Garden. The workshop will include why native plants matter, which pollen and nectar producing plants feed bees from March through October; and how to plant, tend and transplant native plants into your own garden. Milk jugs will be used to create our own propagation containers together, to be planted either on your own property, or donated to the Watson Park project.

  • NARCAN TRAINING: Tuesday, December 13, 6-6:30 p.m. (Upstairs Meeting Room at the Northborough Free Library.) REGISTER ON LINE. Space is limited.

Narcan is the brand name of the generic naloxone and is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids – including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription medications – when given in time. This Free Narcan training will provide participants with a brief training on how to recognize an opioid overdose, when and how to use Narcan, and a free kit to take home. The kit includes:

  • 2 doses of Narcan
  • Fentanyl test strips with instructions
  • Face shield
  • Instructions on Narcan administration
  • Recovery resource guide

This training is provided by clinicians within the Greater Boroughs Partnership for Health.
