The Northborough Town Election is being held on Tuesday, May 11 and there are three candidates running for two spots on the Northborough Southborough Public Schools Regional School Committee.
Candidate Mariam Ibrahimi is up against incumbents Kathleen Howland and Karen Ares.
Ibrahimi currently resides on the town’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Committee Chair and Board of Selectmen Vice Chair Tim Kaelin endorses her and believes her “viewpoint will add tremendous value to the Regional School Committee and will help the ARHS community in many different and positive ways.”
Ibrahimi would be the youngest member of the Regional School Committee and the only person of color if elected.
Ibrahimi has also received endorsements from other community members including Regional School Committee member Kathleen Howland, Northborough School Committee member Lauren Bailey-Jones, Northborough for Full Day Kindergarten chair Suzy Familo Cieslica, Northborough Planning Board Chair Kerri Martinek, Kristen Wixted of the Save Bartlett Street Coalition, Sherry Clark of the Northborough Youth Committee, Sarah Saeed of the Coalition for Equity, Samantha Perlman of the Marlborough City Council, Jeanne Cahill of the Northborough Democratic Town Committee, and Ceylan Rowe of the Metrowest Commission on the Status of Women and Northborough Democratic Town Committee.
Her latest individual endorsements include Jason Perrault, Leslie Rutan, Julianne Hirsh and Scott Rogers, all who are members of the Northborough Board of Selectmen along with Kaelin.
