National Drug Takeback Day

National Drug Takeback Day

Clean out your medicine cabinets.

The annual National Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Takeback Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 23. In Northborough, you can bring any expired, unused or unwanted medications to the Northborough Police Station (211 Main Street) or Wegmans (9102 Shops Way) lobby from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Often unused prescription drugs can be dangerous if in the wrong hands.

According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

This is a safe and anonymous way to discard them.

A reminder that the Town of Northborough Health Department has a sharps disposal program year round. Residents are asked to call the Health Department at 508-393-5009 to coordinate drop-off.

The Police Department will also accept prescription drop offs in their lobby year round.
