The Northborough Cultural Council (NCC) announced its 2021 grant awards to 19 local individual artists and organizations. A total of $8,311 was awarded. This was made possible by combined funds from the Mass Cultural Council as well NCC funds.
“The arts are alive in Northborough and we are particularly excited to see some new projects this year,” said NCC Chair Terry Underwood. “Engagement on the mental health front for students, hip hop dancing for seniors and theatre education are all part of this year’s approved grants. We are committed to supporting our artists through COVID times and hope to keep the flames of culture alive for our townspeople.”
As a local Cultural Council serving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the NCC participates in one of the largest grassroots cultural funding networks in the nation. Thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities are supported through grants from the Mass Cultural Council.
“During this difficult year, the Northborough Cultural Council has worked harder than ever to keep the arts community together,” said Northborough Selectman Julianne Hirsh. “They have brought not only the creative arts to us but they have given us moments of happiness and community spirit. In this historic time of a pandemic, it is essential to remember the gifts that all artists bring to our world and I want to thank the NCC and all of the grant recipients who have shared their talent and creativity with all of us.”
The NCC would like to extend their thanks to not only the community for their patronage, but also to the many legislators for their support throughout the years.
This year’s grant recipients’ events will be listed on the NCC Facebook page throughout the year. To hear more about each project, a virtual broadcast of the Grantee Reception is open to the public on Thursday, April 8, at 7:00 pm. The Zoom link will be posted on the NCC page on the town website.
