Northborough Residents start “Save Bartlett” campaign.

Two more large warehouse and distribution center construction projects are being considered in Northborough that are being met with resistance by residents, who have started a campaign to educate and bring awareness to their concerns and to communicate their opposition. The two sites include 0 Bartlett Street and 1 Lyman Street.

Residents have reached out to the Planning Board, but have also started the “Save Bartlett” campaign to keep the community updated of the process and to share information.

The comprehensive website also includes a link to a citizen petition, which currently has 835 signatures.

The Gutierrez Company’s plan is to build another 150,000 square foot high bay distribution center with 36 bays at 0 Bartlett Street. The location is at the edge of Stirrup Brook and close to the driveway of Algonquin Regional High School. The Gutierrez Company requested a continuance at the Planning Board’s September 15 meeting and this issue will be further discussed on Tuesday, October 6.

Another property is on the corner of Bartlett Street and Lyman Street (1 Bartlett Street) and the plan is to build a 20,000 square foot office/warehouse space that will sit on top of a groundwater 1 zone. It is set to be developed by Cable Matters, Inc., a computer cable company.

Some of the concerns being voiced by residents include:

  • Environmental contamination
  • Traffic impacts
  • Safety concerns to Algonquin Regional High School students
  • Noise and light pollution
  • Wildlife disruption
