November kids’ programs announced at library

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for November 2021. The schedule will not disappoint and includes favorites and new programs and events. Online registration is required for most programs as they return to indoors at the library. Please continue to help protect our town’s children until they are eligible for vaccines. The library respectfully asks that you wear a mask and/or practice social distancing while participating in in-person events. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. SPECIAL EVENTS:

  • Not So Scary Stories with John Procino, renowned storyteller/musician; Ellsworth McAfee Park. October 28 (10-11 a.m.) He will spin a handful of his most beloved seasoned tales and songs for young children. Expect stories, songs, music and playful touch of audience participation. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Northborough Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council.
  • Trick or Treat the Library. October 30 (9:30-11:30 a.m.) Happy Halloween! Families are invited to don their costumes a day early and trick or treat the library. Discover the spooky storywalk around the library and pick up a take home craft and goody bag. This is a timed entry event and registration is required.
  • Reading is Magic with Ed the Wizard. November 1 at Library meeting room (1-2 p.m.) Join Ed the Wizard on the day off from school for a show full of amazing magic, fun stories and new effects that allows volunteers to help where they are sitting. Suitable for all ages, but registration is required.
  • Lizzo at the Library. November 6 at Library meeting room (1-2 p.m.) Join local author Patrick Brady and his pet bearded dragon Lizzo for a reading of the two of his books about Lizzo and her adventures. Meet and greet Lizzo and do a fun art project. Please register for this event.
  • Native Plants Winter Sow Workshop. November 20 at Library meeting room (11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) Let’s “Build a Better Northborough” together and support our native bees, butterflies, and birds. Learn why native plants matter, which pollen and nectar producing plants feed bees from March to October, and how to propagate, care for and transplant natives into your own garden. We’ll use milk jugs to create your own propagation containers together to be planted on your own property or donated to the Watson Park project. Sponsored by the Watson Park Pollination Preservation Garden. All are welcome, but please register.
  • Tween Turkey Cupcake Decorating. November 23 (4-5 p.m.) Kids in grades 4-5 will decorate festive turkey cupcakes. Please register as space is very limited. Allergy questions or concerns should be directed to the library at least one week in advance.

MONDAYS

  • November 15: Lego Club (3-5 p.m.) Drop in for a Lego Club. Kids can free-build or complete our challenge of the week. Registration required.

TUESDAYS

  • November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 (10-10:30 a.m.) Alphabits Storytime. Children ages 3-5 will enjoy a story time designed to promote early literacy, develop classroom skills and develop familiarity with the alphabet. During each story time in this 26 week series, a different letter of the week will be featured using stories, songs, crafts, games and more to help kids recognize letters and the sounds they make.
  • November 2, 16, 30 (6:30-7:00 p.m.). PJ Storytime. Get dressed in your pajama best and join Ms. Lindsay for a bedtime themed story time. Bring your favorite stuffed animal and enjoy cozy stories to end the night right Best suited for families with children ages 2-6. Registration required.
  • November 16 (4-4:30 p.m.) Beginning Reader Book Club. Newly independent readers will practice reading out loud by working through a story together in a small group. Best suited for kindergarten-aged students. Books are available to borrow in advance in the Children’s Room. Please register.

WEDNESDAYS

  • November 3, 10, 17, 24 (9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30 -11 a.m.). Mother Goose on the Loose. An early literacy program for children ages birth-2 years. Sing, rhyme and bounce along with musical instruments, puppets, and other props. Registration required.
  • November 3, 10, 17, 24 (1-2 p.m.) Young Scientists with STEM Beginnings. Six week enrichment series facilitated by STEM Beginnings for children ages 3-5 with a parent/caregiver. Learn STEM concepts through hands-on activities, story time, challenges and simple experiments. Please register. Sponsored by the YMCA Family & Community Partnership, a grant funded by the Department of Early Education and Care.
  • November 17 (6-7 p.m.) Graphic Novel Book Club in the Meeting Room. Read a graphic novel each month then come to the meeting to discuss it and make a craft or play a game. This program is for kids in grades 3-5. Parents and caregivers for those younger than 10 must remain on the library premises while their children participate in this independent book club. Books will be available to check out in advance in the Children’s Room. Registration is required.

THURSDAYS

  • November 4, 18 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Mashup. Designed for children ages 2 through 5. Instruments, scarves, and other toys will be used while we read, dance to music and make some noise. Registration is required.

FRIDAYS

  • November 5, 12, 19 (10-10:30 a.m.) Toddler Time at Ellsworth McAfee Park pavilion. This story time is filled with age- and developmentally-appropriate stories, songs, movement activities, and fingerplay that build your child’s early literacy skills. For children ages 2 and 3 years old with a favorite adult! No registration required.

SATURDAYS

  • November 6, 13, 20, 27: Crafternoon Kits. Drop by the library Children’s Room every Saturday to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Kits are available for pick up from 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Saturdays while supplies last.
  • November 6 (10-10:30 a.m.) Stories, Songs, & Sketches. Kids and their parents or caregivers are invited to play together through stories, songs and yoga shapes. No experience necessary! This program is best suited for families with children ages 4-7. Registration is required.
  • November 13 (10-10:30 a.m.) Color Me a Story in the Meeting Room. Drop in for a quick story and color a themed coloring page. For families with children ages 2 through 6. Registration is required.
  • November 20 (10-10:30 a.m.) Mother Goose. This is an early literacy program for children ages birth through 2 years. Sing, rhyme and bounce along with musical instruments, puppets, and other props. Registration is required.
  • November 27 (10-10:30 a.m.) STEAM Storytime. Drop in for a stories on a STEAM topic followed by a simple extension activity. For families with children ages 4-6. Registration is required.
