Assabet Valley Mastersingers is a regional chorus which presents three major concerts a year in November, March, and May plus a Messiah Sing with audience participation in December. AVM performs celebrated masterworks, lesser known masterworks and commissioned compositions with professional instrumentalists and vocal soloists. Interested singers are invited to attend an open rehearsal. An audition is required to join, but vocal training is not essential. Basic musicianship, a good musical ear, and a dedication and love for the choral classics is a must, however. Open rehearsals are held at the start of preparation for each concert. You are invited to join us at the open rehearsals for each concert. Our next open rehearsal dates are: November 20, November 27, and December 4 for the March 2018 concert. Rehearsals are held on Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:45 pm at the Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St. Northborough, MA 01532. Rehearsals run until 9:45pm with a 10-15 minute break. If, after attending an open rehearsal, you find you would like to continue with the group, we ask that you prepare a piece to provide the Artistic Director with a sense of your voice qualities. The piece need not be elaborate. The meeting with the Artistic Director will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time, generally prior to a Monday rehearsal. In addition, come to our Messiah Sing in December which is open to everyone who wants to sing or listen to us before deciding to join. (A $10 donation is suggested at the door.) Members purchase their own music, pay a small annual dues fee, and participate in a fall fund drive to obtain advertisers and sponsors to support the organization’s operating budget.
