What’s better than reading a great book? Discussing it with a great group of people!
Open Circle Acupuncture & Healing located at 411 West Main Street (rear of building) holds an evening book club meeting four times a year, hosted by owners Melissa Stein and Kim Flaherty. What sets this book club apart from others is the book selection. The focus of the books is on self-care, health and wellness.
Stein, who is a Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist, is an avid book reader.
“I love health and wellness books,” said Stein. “I wanted to create a book club for others who also crave health and wellness non-fiction.”
The most recent book discussed was the memoir, “Dying to Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True Healing” by Anita Moorjani. The author shares her diagnosis of cancer and how her body was shutting down after four years. Her perspective changed after having a near death experience and recovering fully.
Stein always comes to the book club with prepared questions, favorite quotes and ready to engage in a discussion with others that often brings up personal connections in a casual, relaxed environment.
“We are learning as a group and it’s going to be a different experience for everyone,” said Stein. “It’s about the experience of sharing.”
Stein would like to see the group grow in 2020 and said the books she selects are not too intense or difficult to read.
“It’s fun, relaxing and inspirational,” said Stein.
The first book selection of 2020 will be “You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life” by Jen Sincero and the group will meet on Tuesday, March 24 from 6-8 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
