December Library kids’ programs

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has a variety of programs scheduled this month. Follow the Library on Facebook and Instagram. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4. Registration from the library’s events page may be needed. Fun programs are scheduled for the school vacation week.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

  • I Caught Santa. Saturday, Dec. 3, 10-11 a.m. Join us for this fun holiday S.T.E.M. event: a story time with local author, J. Anthony Garreffi, followed by “Engineering Your Own Alien” delivered by a leading educator from STEM Beginnings in Shrewsbury, MA. Space travel, extraterrestrial life, and the “ULTIMATE Renewable Energy” … this is a wonderfully creative, deeply emotional, and SUPREMELY whimsical new story from the author of the splendidly popular children’s book series, I Caught Santa. For children ages 6 through 9. Registration is required. This free event is funded by a S.T.E.M. Scholarship from Ever Learn Media.
  • Gnome Sweet Gnome. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Just in time for the holidays. Create pocket-sized friends with air-dry, foam clay. This craft will require some patience and precision as we work with smaller sizes. Geared towards kids in grades 3-5. Please register.
  • Chanukah Storytime & Craft. Thursday, Dec. 15, 10-10:30 a.m. Come listen to the vibrant telling of the story of Chanukah, all while making new friends. Create a special craft and enjoy chocolate coins. Geared for families with kids ages 8 and under. Please register.
  • Cookie Decorating. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 4-7 p.m. Search the Children’s Room for the hidden cookies to earn your cookie decorating kit. Take your kit to the Room of Requirement to do some decorating. No registration required, while supplies last.
  • Fort Night. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 6-8 p.m. Families are invited to take over the children’s room. Bring your own blankets and build a fort amongst the books. Cozy up in your newly created abodes with some good books and tasty hot chocolate. Please register.
  • Drop-in Winter Lights Art Project. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Stop in and make a paper luminary. Families are welcome, no registration needed.
  • Superhero Day – Flicknic & Fun Activities. Thursday, Dec. 29. Celebrate Superheroes all day long! Wear your masks and capes to the library, find all hidden superheroes in the Children’s Room, and complete a craft or coloring activity. Join us for a Flicknic at noon, where you can bring your lunch or snack to watch the new DC League of Super-Pets movie on the big screen!
  • ‘Noon Year’s Eve’ Party. Friday, Dec. 30, 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Ring in the New Year at the library. Listen to a story or two, do a fun craft and count down to Noon, complete with a balloon drop. For families with kids ages 2-6. Registration required.

MONDAYS

  • LEGO Club: Dec. 19, 3-5 p.m.. Drop by for LEGO Club! This month, create your own LEGO ornament to take home and hang with your holiday decorations. Please register.

TUESDAYS

  • Music Mashup: Dec. 6, 13, 20, 27; 10-10:30 a.m. An engaging and interactive program developed for families with children 2-5. Instruments, scarves and other toys will be used while we read, dance to music and make some noise. No registration required.

WEDNESDAYS

  • Mother Goose on the Loose: Dec. 7, 14, 21, 28; 9:45-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:00 a.m. This early literacy program supports your child’s development through story, songs, rhymes, bouncing and fingerplays. Musical instruments and puppets will further children’s early learning skills. Best suited for children birth-2 with a favorite adult. No registration required.
  • Read to Finnegan: Dec. 7, 14, 21; 3:30-4:15 p.m. Sign up to read to our very special “read” dog. Finnegan is trained to sit with your child and listen to them read. This kind of support from lovable pups can foster your child’s self confidence, build reading skills and it’s just plain fun. Please register.

THURSDAYS

  • Preschool Story Time: Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22; 10-10:30 a.m. or 1-1:30 p.m. (No session on 12/15 at 10 a.m.) For preschoolers ages 4-5. A story time with a little independence. Join us for stories and a fun craft or activity. No registration required.

FRIDAYS

  • Toddler Time: Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23; 10-10:30 a.m. Explore a weekly theme while enjoying age and developmentally appropriate stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplay. Geared towards children ages 2-3 with a favorite adult. No registration required.
  • Toddler Zone Playtime: Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23; 10:30-11:30 a.m. Head over to the Room of Requirement – it’s time to play! The room’s door will be closed and special toys brought out for use only during this time. Families with toddlers ages 1-3 are welcome.

SATURDAYS

  • Crafternoon Kits: Dec. 17; 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Drop by the library every Saturday to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Crafternoon kits are available for pick up while supplies last on the designated dates. Sponsored by the Northboro Junior Woman’s Club.
  • Color Me a Story: Dec. 10, 10-10:30 a.m. Join Miss Rachael for a short story or two and a fun coloring page. For families; no registration required.
  • 5 Senses Storytime: Dec. 17, 10-10:30 a.m. Explore on of the five senses with stories and a process art activity. For families with kids ages 3-6. Please register.
