CANCELLED: STEM Conference for middle school girls

CANCELLED: STEM Conference for middle school girls

“Regretfully, due to the current COVID-19 virus status, the STEM conference on March 21 has been cancelled. The safety and well-being of the girls, presenters, volunteers, clubwomen and community are of the highest priority. NJWC does not anticipate being able to reschedule the event this year. We look forward to another amazing conference next year.”

The Northboro Junior Woman’s Club will be holding its 13th Annual Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference to give middle school girls the opportunity to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math. The conference will be held on Saturday, March 21 at Algonquin Regional High School located at 79 Bartlett Street from 8:15 am – 2 pm.

After an opening keynote presentation, the girls will attend four, 40-minute interactive hands-on career workshops. Presenters represent fields such as Forensic Chemistry, Pharmacy, Architecture, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Teaching, Engineering, and Medical Professions. The presenters explain what they do in their occupation, share different tips on courses of study and ways to train for their profession, and provide hands-on exploration/activities.

A luncheon follows the workshops and offers an opportunity for the students and presenters to continue discussions in a more informal setting.

Registration this year is solely on-line. Enrollment is limited to the first 250 girls. Please note that choice of the workshops is based on a first come, first served basis. We will try out best to match you with your top choices. This program has historically been very popular and always fills to capacity.

The event is also seeking donations to help offset the costs.
