It’s spring cleaning time and now here’s motivation to get it done in the next few weeks.
Northborough-Southborough schools will be holding a Textile Recycling Challenge the week of April 1 – April 5.
Almost all textiles can be recycled, but 85% end up in landfills, which costs millions of dollars and pollutes our planet. Join our Northborough schools, which will be participating in the challenge as we work together to draw awareness to the issue, have fun, and make a little money for the school PTOs.
Melican Middle School, Lincoln Street School, Peaslee School, Proctor School and Zeh School will be participating.
Simply have students bring in bags of clean, dry textiles in any condition during the week of the challenge. Each school will have specific goals and incentives.
Footwear/shoes, clothing, linens, and accessories, such as scarfs, hats, pocketbooks, gloves, and belts, are acceptable items for recycling.
If you don’t have a student in the schools, find a neighborhood student to help their school in the challenge. Peaslee School and Lincoln Street School will also have Baystate Textile Recycling trailers set up and can be accessed after school hours. The general public is encouraged to participate.
Each school also has a permanent Baystate Textiles bin on the premise throughout the year. PTOs receive funds based on weight of donations.
