Towns come together to support Ava Roy

On Sunday, December 9 in the early morning, Shrewsbury resident and Worcester Firefighter Christopher J. Roy passed away from injuries he sustained while fighting a fire as a member of the Webster Square Station, Ladder 4. Christopher was a single father and his 9-year old daughter Ava, described as “the light of his life,” attends Calvin Coolidge Elementary School in Shrewsbury. A memorial fund was established by the Worcester Firefighters IAFF Local 1009 in the name of Ava and firefighters, community members and local officials in Shrewsbury, Northborough and Westborough have come together to plan a community fundraiser to support Ava Roy, with all proceeds donated to the Ava Roy Fund.

“Towns of Love for Ava Roy” will be held on Friday, January 25 from 7-11 p.m. at Maironis Park, 52 S. Quinsigamond Avenue in Shrewsbury. The evening will feature three local bands – Tim Pitney and Red Badge, Dark Horse and Worcester Jazz Collective. A silent auction and raffle will be held, and a cash bar and refreshments will be provided.

Please consider attending to support of Ava. Tickets are $30 each and must be purchased in advance. Sponsorship levels range from $100 – $5,000 and donations are welcome if you are unable to attend. For questions regarding sponsorships, please contact Hannah Kane at 617-448-7304 or RepHannahKane@gmail.com.

The event costs are being paid by the Hannah Kane Charitable Foundation so that 100% of the funds raised will be donated directly to the Ava Roy Fund. Checks for the event are made payable to the Ava Roy Fund and should be mailed to the Hannah Kane Charitable Foundation, PO Box 595, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

The event will also include a silent auction and raffle and we would be grateful for donations. Please contact Beth Casavant at 508-641-8174 or bethcasavant@gmail.com if you would like to donate.

Thank you in advance for considering support of Ava Roy through this charitable event and we hope to see you all on Friday, January 25th at “Towns of Love for Ava Roy.”
