What’s Happening in Town

It’s Friday. On Friday’s we typically post the “Weekend RoundUp” — at look at all that is happening in and around town to help you navigate your busy schedules, stay on top of local goings-on, and make sure not to miss opportunities to support the community. But today those busy schedules are wiped out, local goings-on are mostly non-existent, and opportunities to support the community are, well, different. But we thought it would still be a good time to take stock of what is happening in our town at this moment in time.

  • As of the last notice from the town, there are three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Northborough. We are all thinking of those individuals and praying for a speedy recovery.
  • All non-essential businesses have been shuttered for the time being, but those that haven’t (and even some that have) are doing some amazing work:
    • With the help of generous donors, Sir Loin Catering is providing more than 1000 meals a week to families in need all over the region. Meals can be picked up after 9AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Sir Loin’s Kitchen (369 W. Main Street). If you’d like to donate to the cause, you can do so via Venmo to @SirloinCatering
    • KH Window Fashion has turned from sewing curtains to sewing protective masks for local health care workers. Huge kudos to them for using their talents for good.
    • The Crafty Nest DIY is offering kids craft kits which they will deliver right to your home. Order here between now and Monday evening (3/30). Drop off dates will be provided once all the orders are in.
    • Davidian’s Farm is open for business and stocked up on the staples (including TP!) — and has offered to sell Gift Cards for any other local businesses that can’t be open at this time. Send them an email for details.
    • Tavern in the Square is giving 100% of all gift card sales to their employees. Plus, when you spend $50 you get another $20 bonus. Buy online here.
    • Main Street Pastries and More is donating breads, breakfast items and other goodies to those in need through their Hope Bread Program.
  • Northborough teachers are working hard to establish new “distance learning” opportunities for our students of all ages. Here are some first hand perspectives on how their jobs have changed in such a short time, and what they are doing to keep our kids engaged.
  • Many local wellness providers are still open and helping you stay healthy. See this post for a list. And many others are providing complimentary online classes (Core Connection, Release Well Being, Metrowest Yoga).
  • Many local restaurants are providing take-out and delivery options to keep your bellies full and give you a break from cooking. Eating takeout is a great way to help keep our economy alive during these challenging times.
  • Neighbors are helping neighbors all over town. In fact, a Facebook group called Northborough Community Aid has been established for sharing valuable (and credible) information regarding local services and outreach efforts.
  • The Northborough Library is doing story time and other events live on their Facebook page. This morning’s “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” reading was followed up with an invitation for a neighborhood stroll, inviting children to hunt for bears in the windows and on the front porches across the community.
  • People are getting outside and feeling the little glimpses of springtime. Beautiful chalk artwork is popping up on driveways, families are working together on yard clean-up or throwing a baseball or lacrosse ball in the yard.

What else do you see happening around town? Please feel free to share with us, or at the Northborough Community Group on Facebook.

Stay well and please, stay home and practice social distancing. It’s for the good of our entire community and beyond.
