Free Public Sunscreen Dispensers

Free Public Sunscreen Dispensers

Northborough will “Practice Safe Skin” with sun protection provided via a community partnership with IMPACT Melanoma.

The Town of Northborough is excited to announce their new partnership with IMPACT Melanoma, a national non-profit organization dedicated to skin cancer prevention and education, to make sunscreen more accessible to residents. Through funding from Be Well Northborough, Northborough has installed four sunscreen dispensers for free public use at Assabet Park and Ellsworth McAfee Park. The sunscreen dispensers will be maintained by the Junior Women’s Club.

Isabella Caruso, regional Epidemiologist with the Greater Boroughs Partnership for Health, and Kristin Black, Northborough Health Director, helped to coordinate the project.

Additional sunscreen dispensers will also be in Southborough and Westborough, within the Greater Boroughs Partnership for Health region. The sunscreen dispensers are filled with all-natural SPH 30 broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen.

According to the American Cancer Society, melanoma is the fifth most common cancer, among males and females. Exposure to UV radiation can be greatly minimized by applying broad-spectrum sunscreen, as well as seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding indoor tanning. We hope this initiative will bring awareness to skin cancer prevention and increase sunscreen use throughout our town. For more information about melanoma, visit: www.cdc.gov/cancer/skin/
