Library children’s programs announced for June

The Northborough Library Children’s Department has announced it’s programming for June 2021. It’s full of virtual and socially distant in-person fun and will keep your kids entertained. Online registration is required for most programs and masks are required for all in-person events. Zoom links will be shared after registration is confirmed. Please consult the library website for any updates or changes in programming or contact the Library directly at 508-393-5025 x4.

SPECIAL SUMMER EVENTS

  • June 18: Summer Reading Kickoff with Scott Jameson at Ellsworth McAee Park, 5:30-6:30 p.m.  Join magician and juggler Scott Jameson for the library’s Summer Reading Kickoff for an extraordinary performance that will have you laughing out loud and perched on the very edge of your seat. Umbrellas will be plucked from thin air, a drawing will come to life, basketballs will be spun and juggled and a member of the audience will unlock telekinetic abilities. More info can be found at www.scottjameson.com or contact the library staff. Space is limited and registration is required. The event will be postponed if it rains.
  • June 25: Ed the Wizard’s Balloon Animal Twisting Workshop at Ellsworth McAffee Park, 2-3 p.m. Learn to make balloon animals. This workshop is best suited for kids 7+, although siblings are welcomed. Kids will learn to make a variety of animals to take home such as a dog, mouse, cat, giraffe, parrot and others. Space is limited and registration is required.
  • June 28-August 31: Doc Tac’s Tails and Tales Town-Wide Scavenger Hunt. Have you met the new bearded dragon, Doctor Taco? Cutouts of Doctor Taco (“Doc Toc”) will be hidden around Northborough outside and at local businesses. Visit the library to receive a passport with clues to help you find them all. Snap a photo of each, then bring your list back to the library to claim a small prize!
  • July 29: Flying High Dogs at Ellsworth McAfee Park, 2-3 p.m. Mike Piazza is a multiple world finalist and world record holder in K-9 Frisbee and the current #1 Professional K-9 frisbee performer in the world. Join him and four of the most athletic Border Collies on the planet for a high-flying canine performance. Space is limited and registration is required.

TUESDAYS

  • June 1, 15: Preschool Explorers: Spring Session, 10-10:30 a.m. via Zoom. Join Ms. Carly for a special Zoom story time designed for preschoolers to explore a STEAM related concept through stories, songs and an activity for demonstration. This program is best suited for children ages 4-5, although siblings and grown ups are welcome to join the fun if they’d like.  Registration required.
  • June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29: Crafternoon Kits, 12 p.m., outside the children’s room side door. Drop by the library every Tuesday afternoon to pick up the materials for a fun new art project. Crafternoon kits are available to pick up from 12-6 p.m. on Tuesdays or while supplies last.
  • June 8, 22: Outdoor Preschool Explorers, 9-9:30 a.m., outside of the library. Ms. Carly leads a special story time designed for preschoolers to explore a STEAM related concept through stories, songs, and an activity or demonstration. Best suited for children ages 4-5. Space is limited. The event will be postponed in the event of inclement weather.
  • June 8: PJ Storytime on Zoom, 6:15-6:45 p.m. on Zoom. Get dressed in your pajama best and join Ms. Lindsay for a bedtime themed story time. Bring your favorite stuffed animal and enjoy cozy stories to end the night right. Best suited for families with children ages 2-6. Registration required.
  • June 29: TAG Outdoor Preschool Storytime, 9-9:30 a.m., outside of the library. The Teen Advisory Group (T.A.G.) will lead an animal themed story time for adults and children ages 2+. The program is best suited for preschool aged children, although siblings are welcome. Space is limited and registration is required.

WEDNESDAYS

  • June 2, 16, 30: Mother Goose Flies the Coop, 9-9:30 a.m., outside the library. A special edition of Mother Goose on the Loose, an early literacy program for children ages birth-2 years. Songs rhymes, props, and more are used to further children’s early learning skills. Space is limited. The event will be postponed to the following week in the event of inclement weather.
  • June 9, 23: Mother Goose on the Loose: Spring Session, 10-10:30 a.m. on Zoom. Log onto Zoom for a special story time for our littlest patrons. This early literacy program for children ages birth-3 will include a story, songs, rhymes, bouncing and fingerplays. Musical instruments, puppets and other props will be used to further children’s early learning skills. Registration required.  Archived recordings are available on the library’s YouTube page.

THURSDAYS

  • June 3, 17: Outdoor Music Mashup, 9-9:30 a.m., outside of the library. Designed for children ages 2-5 and their whole family. This program invites children to explore movement through music, use instruments and other manipulatives, and enjoy a story or two together. Space is very limited. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be postponed to the following week.
  • June 3, 10, 17, 24: Young Scientists with STEM Beginnings, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This 6-week virtual series will teach children STEM concepts through hands-on activities, story time and simple experiments. This is an interactive class using Zoom and parents/caregivers are encouraged to help their child. Weekly registration is required. A list of materials to prepare for each class will be provided weekly.
  • June 10, 24: Music Mashup: Spring Session, 10-10:30 a.m. via Zoom. Designed for children ages 2-5 and their whole family. Children will explore movement through music, use instruments and other manipulatives and enjoy a story. Registration required.

FRIDAYS

  • June 4, 18: Toddler Time: Spring Session, 10-10:30 a.m. via Zoom. For children ages 2-3 with their favorite adult. Registration required. Age- and developmentally-appropriate stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplay will be used as we build your child’s early literacy skills.
  • June 11, 25: Outdoor Toddler Time, 9-9:30 a.m., outside the library. This story time is filled with age and developmentally appropriate stories, songs movement activities and fingerplay that build your child’s early literacy skills. For children ages 2-3 with a favorite adult. Space is limited. Registration required.
