Following is the statement that was submitted by the candidate.
My name is Lisa Maselli and I’m running for Northborough Board of Selectmen. I’m asking for your vote for several key reasons.
To share a bit more about myself, I have a great deal of civic experience and hands-on participation throughout the last 35 years. I have a well-rounded understanding of
finance, law, fundraising, team building, small business ownership, marketing, public speaking, and more. In the five towns I have owned homes, I have participated in an executive level on many boards and committees.
I have also done extensive research on many neighborhood issues, helping to shine a light on the process of town government and restore power back to Northborough citizens. I’ve helped many to navigate through the challenging web of public hearings, special permits, variances, appeals, bylaw creation, town meeting presentations and the general workings of boards and committees.
Leadership is more important now than ever. There is no blueprint yet for living through a worldwide pandemic. No amount of scenarios can prepare us for the iceberg ahead. The domino effect of shuttered businesses, small and large alike, which lead to job loss, pay cuts, bankruptcy, housing market crashes and tax revenue deficits, will not be fully known for years to come.
So let’s start now to lower our taxes. We will be collectively tightening our belts, we should investigate further as to how town spending is working for its citizenry, and make serious adjustments.
Having a strong background in finance is necessary to navigating a town budget, which I do. I will personally oversee the budget wish lists and suggest cuts befitting the future losses; propose a senior tax reduction plan and a dual tax rate for Industrial and Residential-Commercial (currently a flat rate for all); take the economic development program to the forefront using the move of Town Hall to its original location of 4 West Main Street and bring a heartbeat back to downtown; charge an implementation committee to carry forth the will of the people from the Master Plan; create a path for town beautification; give traffic calming and pedestrian safety throughout the town, the attention it needs for starters.
I will bring a varied viewpoint to Board meetings always serve as an independent thinker representing voters. I will not show up with a rubber stamp and in lock step with one and only one vision. You should have a choice in how you are represented.
More than anything, I plan to make Northborough a better place for residents to live in and a place for businesses to flourish in. It’s what we all deserve in this community we call our home.
