The Northborough Rotary Club has worked with the Northborough Public Schools grades K-8 to successfully initiate its Nutrition 68 program, which is a school weekend backpack program for children who face food insecurity. Backpacks are typically filled with items such as crackers, tuna, soup, pasta and cereal to help sustain the student and their family through the 68 hours of the weekend from Friday afternoon through Monday morning.
These families are at risk during the closing of the schools during the current COVID 19 social distancing recommendations.
The Nutrition 68 program was able to provide a large box of food for approximately 30 students in grades K-8. The partnership with the Northborough Rotary Club and the quick mobilization of volunteers helped to make this happen in a very short amount of time.
Because of the amount of food packed, the Nutrition 68 supply is starting to get low. Many Northborough families and residents have asked how they can support this program during this critical time. The Nutrition 68 program is accepting monetary donations to purchase further food supplies to support Northborough students.
